Schroder for Portis

This can happen DEC 15, and has probably been posed before. It is inevitable that Sacramento will get off to a bad start and that Milwaukee will have a massive need for a point guard.
MIL trades: Bobby Portis
SAC trades: Dennis Schroder, 2026 SAC 2nd, 2027 SAC 2nd
Milwaukee gets an acceptable fill-in starting point guard who actually has a chance to stick through his contract. They also get some seconds, which should be helpful for a team that has leveraged so much of its future.
Sacramento gets a F/C who is a nice fit with Sabonis and has more trade value than Schroder if they decide to pull the plug and rebuild. If Carter looks good they can give him a bigger role, and I am just assuming they will have Westbrook. I think a starting lineup of Westbrook - LaVine - Murray - Portis - Sabonis might work, too.

What, you don't think Cole Anthony, Ryan Rollins, and a couple two-way guys are gonna get it done??

The trouble is, of course, that Sacramento has it almost as bad. But at a certain point it is worth swapping out the deck chairs, and if they get off to a bad start they might look at giving Carter more run and spacing the court better in the starting 5. Plus, Portis has been of interest for Kings fans here for a while.

It feels like Westbrook will only be a King if Monk and/or Carter are gone. Right now that doesn't feel likely because GS won't budge.
I don't see the benefit here for Sac. We trade one non solution for another, but it costs us assets we shouldn't be giving.
Not opposed to moving Schroder, but I'd rather find a way to get some 2nds for him or just keep him.

Bucks need Portis more than they do Schroeder, personally I think Schroeder kind of sucks and is not a starting PG and plus is a big headache to boot. Bobby is loved, on a fair contract, and plays a more important position. The difference is more than a couple 2nds. Denis Schroeder straight up is not as good as Kevin Porter Jr, Cole Anthony, and Ryan Rollins. Not a winning player, he’d be a guy we’d think about signing as a buyout before deciding better so giving up value is a non starter. A 32 year old inefficient malcontented ball hog doesn’t convey at value. Bucks would be better off just signing Russ Westbrook for the minimum who is a better player and teammate than Schroeder.

I think the value is fair but I wouldn't make the trade right now. Carter isn't a point guard at all. I don't want him as the backup or starting pg, he is a shooting guard. I think monk was ok as the point guard but based on what sabonis has said he didn't think so. If the kings did sign Westbrook then I would be willing to do the trade, but keeping sabonis happy is the priority.

Portis is a much better player and Cole Anthony is "close enough" to Schroeder for MIL to give it a try. Schroeder is a nice player, but not impactful enough for this move, IMO. Turner replaces Lopez but Portis is still an integral, versatile piece for MIL to fight to contend.

I'm not saying Milwaukee should or shouldn't do this deal, but Cole Anthony is not "close enough" to Schroeder in any real sense.

Schroder might be the most consistently overrated journeyman that somehow keeps getting 8-figure contracts despite being a replacement level guard. Two 2nd's is probably the price to dump his contract in a year or two, not something that's going to net the Kings a good, frontcourt player. I think the value's only close if there's some sort of protected-1st or prospect (Carter) coming back. Bucks have three much younger and much cheaper replacement level guards that at least have some upside.

The third year of his deal is only partially guaranteed at a couple million. And unfortunately based on the lack of replacement level point guards in the league I would say that his contract is at least close to fair value.
the league currently has a surplus of combo guards, but just look around the league right now and look at how few true point guards there are I think that makes his contract acceptable.
