(via @flasportsbuzz):
Heat final offer
- Andrew Wiggins
- Terry Rozier
- Haywood Highsmith
- Jaime Jaquez Jr.
- 20th pick
Suns’ counter:
- Andrew Wiggins
- Terry Rozier
- Haywood Highsmith
- Jaime Jaquez Jr.
- Nikola Jovic
- 20th pick & pick-swap
Rockets winning offer :
-Jalen Green
-Dillon Brooks
-10th pick
Should the Heat have met the Suns' counter? Was either Miami package better than what the Rockets gave?

*Supposedly. Zero trust in anything coming from Barry Jackson.

KD is a better fit in Houston than on the Heat. Also, Miami's offer is flaming hot trash, whereas the Rockets' offer was only litter bin rubbish.
Best deal was Minnesota's offer, but that was contingent on KD wanting to go there, which he didn't.

Both Heat deals would be better for this season for Phoenix, but the higher draft pick gives the Houston offer some more long-term value (especially if they said yes when the Pells were being stupid).
The fits for the Miami deals would be better - filling out the Suns forward rotation rather than one useful SF and a SG they want to pretend is a PG.
I hate the Green at PG fit so much that I'd have probably taken a Miami offer over the Houston one (I don't think Jovic and a pick swap make a huge difference). If I could have leveraged the 2nds or something to turn Geen into a credible starting PG or PF then I'd prefer the Houston deal.

The No. 10 pick is the best asset offered by a pretty wide margin. Honestly, once the Heat pulled Ware, I'm not sure why the Suns kept talking to them. The pick swap Riley refused to include had a low probability of bening worth anything.

It's obvious Miami didn't really want KD

I wouldn't see why they have the back and forth of offers if they didn't want KD. It would be obvious if they didn't make an attempt like many other teams.
The Heat lowballed the Suns for KD, just like they lowballed the Blazers for Lillard. They value their own players highly or they are trying to make a trade where they get something valuable by not giving up much value.

Both Heat offers were still better, considering it didnt involve multiple years of Jalen Green

We're saying the same thing. There is a point for every team where the cost is too much. Miami set it's point at a relatively low level, and honestly? Good for them!
And I'm not relitigating the Dame deal. None of us has any idea what was or wasn't offered.

Including — and especially — Barry Jackson.

I have some doubts about this reporting, but its good because it allows each of us to claim we were right all along....
But if we pretend this is true, Rockets offer made way more sense to take though. Pick 10 obviously better than 20 and while I don't believe in Green, he has an upside that none of that Heat stuff does. And Suns need upside plays no matter how far-fetched.

Good post Laimbeer. Hard to know what’s true, but the report seems reasonable. Not good for teams to have leaks about their offers, better for them to keep negotiating in secret (other teams learn their intentions, players get pissy if included in an offer). That being said, it’s great stuff if leaked and gives us on this board a better insight to real negotiation and reflection on the legitimacy (or not) of our own trade proposals.

Green is what he is, but I'd still take him and Brooks over that group of Heat players easily, and the pick was higher. Rockets offer was definitely better.

I definitely like the Phx counter for both teams better than where they each ended up.
Miami doesn't want to tank, and while I don't agree with that- having Herro-Powell-Durant-Ware-Bam would have been a hell of a lineup.
Phoenix wouldn't have been stuck with Green. Wiggins is positive value who could have been flipped to a number of teams or kept. Rozier is expiring. JJJ and Jovic are two interesting semi-young guys.
Think both teams would have been better off agreeing to that deal.

Yup. His reports change retroactively to whatever makes Miami look best. I would consider anything he publishes to be in the most Heat favored view.

I can buy that this is what the Heat offered, I don't believe the counter is real.

I'm definitely more down on Green than you (even as an "upside" play) but still would take the PHX offer pretty easily over Miami's.
The 10th pick >>> the 20th pick and JJJ. I'd have Wiggins and Rozier ahead of Green and Brooks by a decent, but smaller, margin, acknowledging that I'm higher on Wiggins and lower on Green than most. We just saw that Highsmith is essentially valueless.

Heat won the trade and dodged a huge bullet. Durant will be traded again in 12 months for $.75 on that dollar. Durant is only happy if he is either being carried to success or he is blameless for a teams under performance.

Durant is an expiring. And he didn’t get carried to success - he was basically unstoppable as a GSW. But that was years ago. Too bad Kyrie/Harden/KD could never be on the court at the same time, that would have been good. But Houston seems like a good fit. Not sure if it’s enough to take out OKC but they will be legitimate contenders.

Heat were offering next to nothing, and if they'd have acquired KD it would have been a big win for then.
