Suns/Warriors/Cavs - Kuminga to Phx

Suns trade:
Oneale + Richards + 3 2nds

Suns receive:
Kuminga (S&T)

Warriors trade:
Kuminga

Warriors receive:
Oneale + (DeanW or Ball)+ 5 2nds

Cavs trade:
2 seconds * (wade or ball)

Cavs receive:
Richard’s

Why?
Cavs save money and upgrade backup center.
Suns get younger
Warriors get rotation player that fits in Oneale plus seconds for in season trade

Can use similar structure with different third team receiving Richards

I wouldn't add anything to Wade or Ball for Richards. The Cavs were reportedly looking for draft capital for Wade earlier this summer.

You need to find a team willing (and able) to take Richards into cap space/TPE for the salary to work for GS.

From there I'm not sure how playable ONeal still is. If he's still a solid rotation option then it could work.

Oneale got 3 years left on his deal. Doubt the Warriors would have interest off that alone.

If he's a solid rotation player I don't see the problem. I know he used to be but seems to have fallen off at least some though. If he's not good anymore then it's a big problem.

He's likely referring to the rumored GSW plan of no contracts past Steph's 2 year contract.

Given that the Warriors will almost certainly be in full rebuild mode at that point it shouldn't be an issue. Maybe the FO has some delusions about some instant cap space reload plan.

My concern would be if ONeal is still good enough to be an effective 3rd forward or if his quality has dropped to be a deeper reserve

Yes he is still pretty good. Good defense. Good passing. Good shooter. He is a Kerr player.

Can the suns afford to give Kuminga his contract using just Royce and Richards? I thought Allen has to be outgoing somewhere.

If they can, this seems like the most likely outcome.
Pay Utah a 2nd or 2 to take Richards. Royce to GS, Kuminga to Phx. GS adds some forward depth and moves on from this mess.

Royce and Richards combined are $15,125,000 in salary, which means they can take back $22,625,000 ($15,125,000 + $7,500,000) in salary and still comply with the trade matching rules. They'd be hardcapped at the first apron but idk if that's a live issue for them post Beal buyout.

If they can, this seems like the most likely outcome.

This is my preferred outcome as well. O'Neale + a couple of 2nds is a win.

That's the point. They want a clean cap post Steph. Big reason guys like Monk and Allen aren't appealing. Granted Oneale makes less than those two, but the point stands.

O'Neale will be a sub-MLE expiring in the 2027 offseason. Unless his play falls off a cliff (and there's no real reason to expect it will), he should be easily movable if he's a barrier to any moves we want to make.

I think Royce would be a solid bench wing/forward in GS.

Ball is another guy I think is worth a shot from most teams. Wade is fine, certainly no problems there.

Don't really get it for Cleveland here - is Richards worth anything at all? He looks like a random replacement level C when I've seen him.

But like it for GS/Phoenix.

I just don't get why they'd care about having a clean cap post-Steph/ Do they expect to sign Jokic or someone as a FA with nothing around them?

In reality they'll be a rebuilding team way under the luxury tax either way. Hurting the team this season based on some delusion is really bad form.

Knowing Joe Lacob, the answer to this question is probably yes.

Yeah I don't think Cleveland swaps Wade or Ball for Richards straight up, let alone adds 2nds to do it. Richards put up decent counting stats because he got minutes on teams with no decent center options, but on a team with good (or even average) big man depth he's JAG.

O'Neale to GS, Kuminga to PHX, Richards + 2nds or cash to whoever for cap space is the deal here IMO if there's a deal to be had.

Not getting someone like Oneale isn't exactly hurting the team imo. I do think Lacob believes that the organization can attract major talent with a ton of cap space. It's basically the strategy he's setting up for both the Warriors and Valkyries

Not getting quality role players so Lacob can fail to sign Giannis in 2 years LFG

Hard disagree on this. We've seen in 2015 and again in 2022 how the right role players can elevate Steph/Dray to title contenders. O'Neale is the right type of role player - smart, unselfish, good shooter, good defender, offers lineup flexibility. He might be "worth less" than Kuminga but I'd bet that he contributes more to winning basketball games with this Warriors roster over the next 2 years than JK does.

Agree and agree to disagree I guess. Agreed GS needs those kind of role guys. Disagree Oneale is still on that level. Maybe a couple years ago, not now
