BOS — LAL — UTA

*None of the contracts involved include guaranteed money beyond this season. SRP details per Spotrac. Trade must take place after 9/7 due to aggregation restrictions.
Celtics (salaries -$16.2MM)
Out: Simons + 2026 SRP (Less favorable of BOS and more favorable of IND and MIA then other to MEM) + 2026 SRP (most favorable of MIN, NOP, NYK and POR) + 2031 SRP (BOS) + Max Cash $7.96MM
In: Vincent
Gets out of the tax completely this season, saves $47.7MM in salaries and tax (net, factoring the cash payout), and creates a $16.2MM TPE which can be used to improve the team next summer — all without sacrificing an FRP.
Lakers (salaries +0.2MM)
Out: Hachimura + Vincent + Kleber
In: Simons + Anderson + Love
Improves backcourt scoring and secondary playmaking while staying under 1st apron.
Jazz (salaries +15.8MM)
Out: Anderson + Love
In: Hachimura (into TPE) + Kleber + 2026 SRP (Less favorable of BOS and more favorable of IND and MIA then other to MEM) + 2026 SRP (most favorable of MIN, NOP, NYK and POR) + 2031 SRP (BOS) + Max Cash $7.96MM
Uses the balance of the Collins TPE and absorbs the useless Kleber contract to acquire draft assets. Possibly flip Hachimura later for an expiring worse player/higher contract + draft assets (Rosier?).

Lakers decline, all 3 players they are sending are more useful to them than the 3 coming.

i'd say love is more useful than kleber at this point. anderson is big downgrade from hachimura though.

Can tell a Jazz fan made this trade. They send out guys they'll probably end up cutting, get Hachimura AND draft picks?

Disagree, Kleber is a legit rotation player when healthy, Love serves no value on the court.

Good trade if for no other reason than getting Kevin Love back in LA.

For lakers:
Rui >> Anderson
Vicent is inferior in talent to Simons but Lakers clearly have no interest in taking on longer term money - especially for a guy who even at this best brings nothing to the team which they couldn't don't have.
Kleber for Love is at best a wash. Realistically, a healthy Kleber gives you far more. If not, at least you have Kleber's expiring contract as salary fodder in a trade.

And making the Lakers worse! That's why 29 teams fans should be all over this one.

The Lakers aren't taking on longer term money.

Theybaren't taking long term money, they are just trading for 27M player who is clearly overpaid and overqualified for the job of Reaves backup, and he's a much worse defender than Vincent.

In terms of on court value for LA, I was thinking: Simons>Hachimura, Anderson>Vincent, Love>Kleber.
Others disagree, obviously, and maybe I'm wrong about Rui. Swing and a miss, I guess. Thanks for the feedback.

If Rui is going out I’d rather he be routed to the Celtics. Don’t want Vincent even though it’s a payroll reduction.
That best 2026 second is probably top 40.
I am not sure it’s worth sending that just to duck the tax. I’d get it though if ownership asked Brad to do something like this.

I remember seeing something that essentially said that the Cs didn't want to mortgage future FRPs just for tax savings, but I'd guess that for nearly $50MM, eliminating a year from the repeater tax calculation, and a nice sized TPE would be worth the SRPs. Swapping Rui for Vincent for the Jazz would be a consideration, but a minor one for me. Cs would need to send other players out to avoid the tax altogether in that scenario, but they could still shed a sizable amount of tax regardless.

All evidence to the contrary.
Neither is more than a 10-15 min bench player anymore and whether you look at the past 1yr, 2yr, or 3yr increments, Love is far superior in that role. Comparing Love's continued strength on the boards to Kleber's anemic rebounding by comparison plus his ability still to stretch the floor... it's no contest whatsoever.

I think the whole getting under the tax for this year is overstated by fans and media. They are focused on building a good team for when Tatum is back at this point. They have accomplished their salary shedding goals. They certainly might trade Simons but if they do it won’t be a pure Salary dump. Will be looking for useful player/s coming back.

We aren't cutting Anderson. This is taking on a massive amount of money. If a second round pick in a vacuum is worth 4-5 million, and you have a corner on the cap space market, and the seconds have some unfavorable swaps ... IMO, this is a pretty reasonable cost to move that money. Hachimura might be more valuable than Anderson, and he might be more valuable than Simons. If LA feels that way they wouldn't do it, but I see nothing egregious here.
RE: the trade - sure, if nothing better comes up, this is better than nothing. I'd love to see if we could get another 2nd or two by swapping Rui for another teams' bad expiring.

I would have no problem with taking Vincent instead of Rui to get this done.

Look in the PO, Maxi was 17MPG on finals team, Love was garbage time player on 1st rd exit.
Maxi has always been useful switch big who can hit the open shot.
