MIL - MEM: Andre Jackson for Scottie Pippen

MIL trades: Andre Jackson Jr., cash
MEM trades: Scottie Pippen Jr.

Jackson is a versatile defender who fits the grit and grind culture. He is also an amazing fit for JJJ at center lineups. With Jerome and Spencer, Pippen (while more of a "true point guard") should be somewhat expendable. A third team could be looped in to get a 2nd for whatever cash the Bucks send?

Milwaukee should be desperate for competent point guard play and Pippen has shown competence. I think Jackson is a more valuable player for most teams, but not for a team that may start KPJ or Cole Anthony at point guard (hopefully they can sign Brogdon).

I feel like Memphis declines pretty quickly. Pippen is good and Jackson isn't...?

I think Jackson is good, but maybe I am very wrong! He obviously has little offensive value, but defensively he always seems like a monster when I watch him  I would trade Collier for him, I think - and I would imagine Collier has similar value to Pippen as a recent first round pick with signs of life (but also the shooting HAS to improve).

not sure what makes jackson more valuable. way too small a sample size to judge him.

Wing defender who can competently guard 1-4, stick him on the best player on the opposing team. This also values Pippen more (hence, cash). But maybe I am just off on how I value Jackson.

Does it really seem like a good idea to trade Ja’s main backup? Andre would be buried here, behind Coward, GG, and likely VinceW still.

I haven't watched any Bucks game except accidentally, so I can't comment on the eye test for AJJ. Defensive metrics look...ok? Fundamentally I'm skeptical that a guy who struggled to get 15 minutes a game on a Bucks team bereft of wing talent is an NBA player but I could easily be wrong here.

A wing who starts for the Bucks

But the consensus is that I am overvaluing him here!

No, I don't think I have. I know that he is in the upper tier of backups who can start long stretches and be a positive on the court - hence sending him to a team that is so short on talent at that position. I value versatile defensive wings more, and I have a lot of faith in Jackson. Perhaps way too much, we will see.

I think the Bucks owe minor draft compensation here like a 2nd rounder. Problem is they don't have any left. Jackson can be a lockdown defensive stopper, but his offensive game is pretty rough and gonna cause some playability issues in the postseason. Pippen is a useful rotation guy but he's got size issues, and he's likely not getting minutes over any of the Bucks three PG options (Porter Jr., Rollins, Cole Anthony).

Why not?

Because there's nothing to suggest he's a demonstrably better player than any of those guys?

Are we watching the same players? There's no serious argument that Rollins or Cole Anthony are better than SPJ.

Pippen was the primary defender on the MVP SGA this past playoffs in the Grizz series. Did pretty well, also had few great offensive games. So I feel confident in saying not only would we value Pippen Jr. over Andre Jackson he is better than Cole Anthony who we released and Rollins.

AJax was the primary defender when we won a championship against MVP SGA and the later season champion OKC Thunder!

Jokes aside, AJax is closer to being cut than traded for a (pretty good) contributor. Ryan Rollins slander will not be tolerated though.

He was our full time starter next to Dame until the deadline when he was removed from the rotation completely. His contract guarantee was actually pushed back this offseason for some extra guaranteed money. I assume he's one on the chopping block assuming something happens (could be as simple as signing Coffey). I feel like some team should take him and try to develop him if we do move on from him but currently he's super rough for a guy who came in what he was. Flashes are there but he hasn't put it together and the coaches seem to be pretty frustrated with him.

From the guy who literally admits he only catches the occasional Bucks game by accident, I honestly doubt you've watched much of these players at all. I won't act like I've poured over hours of Scotty Pippen Jr. tape, but "no serious argument" is a pretty skeptical thing to say so confidently over an undrafted, converted two-way contract guy that's played like, 20 more games than Ryan Rollins in his career thus far. There's nothing to suggest Milwaukee would somehow value Pippen Jr. over the younger, already pretty good two-way player they just gave a $12 million extension to.

Per-36:

Rollins: 15/4/4/2 on 60% TS
Pippen: 16/7/5/2 on 58% TS

on/off:

Rollins: +4.0 (+5.4 on)
Pippen: -3.6 (+2.9 on)
