Back to Detroit?

Don't you all still have his early Bird rights and can give him a rounds $7 mil? Barring the Nets using their cap room to give him a bigger deal as a trade chip, don't see why he wouldn't go back

Detroit no longer has the ability to sign Beasley for $42MM over three years — that would have required cap room or the non-taxpayer mid-level exception, which has since been used on Caris LeVert. But the Pistons do still hold his Non-Bird rights, giving them the ability to offer a 2025/26 salary up to $7.2MM (a 20% raise on last season’s $6MM salary). Few teams – and even fewer playoff contenders – still have the ability to offer more than that amount at this point in the offseason.

Cheap 1-year deal in Milwaukee then re-hit free agency in 2026.
Detroit is limited in what they can offer, and Brooklyn has cap space but seems unlikely.
I think Milwaukee gives him a high-profile spot to showcase himself and build value.

Beasley just did have a high-profile spot to showcase himself and build value...only to once again find himself in the news and investigations for the wrong reasons.
I think he is likely taking the most money he can get given his financial situation.

Pistons using his early bird rights make the most sense, unless Wizards or Nets throw more money.

I'd be shocked if anyone else offered him a contract bigger than the 7.2M, it's up to the Pistons if they want him back.

Impractical and extremely unlikely to be sure. Just a random thought on how the rich get richer.

If he is available for the minimum I would 100% take him back in Milwaukee

Curious what the process was that brought him under investigation in the first place. At this point, they made a false accusation of him and pretty directly cost him $35M in earnings. I think he's owed some transparency and clarity into the process that brought his name up in the first place for someone that he's now been cleared of.
If there's real reason to investigate someone then you have to do it. But my understanding is that he was investigated because of strange results around prop bets while he was on the Bucks. That's not exactly a concrete thing. Very open ended, and their investigation into it cost him $35M. Definitely sits kind of funny with me.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think he's been cleared.
Malik Beasley is no longer a target of the federal gambling investigation conducted by the Eastern District of New York, his attorneys, Steve Haney and Mike Schachter, told ESPN on Friday, potentially reopening free agency for one of the NBA's top shooters.
Haney and Schachter told ESPN that they had extensive conversations and meetings with the Eastern District of New York and received determination on Beasley not being considered the target after allegations regarding gambling on NBA games and prop bets during the 2023-24 season.
"Months after this investigation commenced, Malik remains uncharged and is not the target of this investigation," Haney told ESPN. "An allegation with no charge, indictment or conviction should never have the catastrophic consequence this has caused Malik. This has literally been the opposite of the presumption of innocence."
A spokesperson for the US. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York declined to comment on the matter Friday.
It's a statement, only from his own attorneys, and even then it doesn't clearly eliminate the possibility of Beasley ever being charged, or being involved with gambling (that the league would consider worthy of a suspension/ban). Obviously, the attorneys office won't publicly announce that someone won't be charged during an ongoing investigation.
I would imagine that most teams still won't consider signing him this season.

One of the prop bets on his rebounding had crazy movement one game. It was 2.5 boards and the under swang way strong right before the game. However, he came out and grabbed 6 boards. Apparently there were several other games around the same period with unusual betting activity on him. It sure looks like someone around him or the team may have been leaking info, but it wasn't him. (The unusual bets lost after all, so he clearly didn't fix the bet for them.) The investigation itself is not closed, but Beasley personally has been cleared.

I'm a lawyer by day and have dealt with the USAO (not EDNY, but in other jurisdictions) a fair amount. You're 100% right that they won't publicly announce that someone won't be charged, or even definitively take it off the table, but it would be pretty rare for them to tell Beasley's lawyers that he was no longer a target of the investigation and then turn around and charge him with something (barring some kind of additional bad act by Beasley) - especially in a case with a high-profile defendant and high powered defense counsel. Criminal bars tend to be pretty tight-knit (a lot of bigtime defense attorneys are former AUSAs, and most AUSAs get their start in private on the defense side) and reputations matter.
If the AUSA(s) in charge of the investigation told Beasley's lawyers he is no longer a target of their investigation, that's as close to "cleared" as he's realistically going to get until the cases actually get charged and tried. Obviously teams have to make their own risk assessments vis a vis both the federal investigation and the NBA gambling rules.
TLDR - he's not formally "cleared" in any legal sense but he's most likely out of danger, IMO.

Do we know for sure if he was an actual Target of the investigation? Or was he a Subject of one? Because there is a difference. He might only have been a subject of one because it involved the unusual swing in prop bets on him that were otherwise being investigated. But if he was a target, which is the words his lawyer is using, that would typically mean there was some evidence linking him in some way -- even if it ultimately wasnt enough evidence to bring to a grand jury which is why he no longer is one.
In any event, they didnt make a false accusation because they didnt accuse him of anything. He was informed he was involved in an investigation, thats not an accusation. Now, those not involved might make assumptions and inferences off of that, but thats not the prosecutors fault. They did their jobs.
I'm also willing to go out on a limb here that at this time he (and his lawyers) do in fact know a bit more about how his name got involved in this.

I hope he comes back to Detroit, sucks for Duncan Robinson tho but Beasley is just flat out better and Robinson is very tradeable in a few months.
