Port Pick for Cap Space/Young Talent
I want my Bulls to be aggressive and add young talent now. I posted about getting Dieng 10 times-so I'll skip that one. I thought of Whitmore, but he's with the Wiz
How about these deals
1. Devin Carter for Port pick
Reports are that the Bulls had interest in Carter last year, and that Sac wants to clear up space/$ to sign Westbrook
2. Henricks/ for Port pick and JCarter
If Utah isn't dealing Lauri, not much time for Henricks to develop. They have Kessler/Flip at the 5, plus still have Anderson/Niang/Nurkic for vets to play
Bulls add a good prospect. Of course, would have to see if he's healthy
3. Knecht and 2 seconds for Port pick
The kid has talent. LA saves $ and adds an asset to play with
4. JHoward and 2 seconds for Port pick
Not sure on this one-does Howard have any talent or is he already a bust? I'd prefer Black, but I don't think Orl would deal him
5. Holmes and Strawther for Port pick
Den saves a bunch of $-Bulls add some young talent. Again, not sure about the talent level of these 2
Anything here?

For the limited upside of that pick I think that ORL is a definite yes, SAC is on the fence, DEN and LAL are likely nos, and UTA is a definite no.

Re: Port Pick for Cap Space/Young Talent
I think the LAL or ORL trades make sense. Denver can't sacrifice the depth, Carter and Hendricks were drafted too recently and too high for it to make sense for their respective teams (and I wouldn't consider it for Utah, Hendricks is going to be a decent rotation player).

What are the protections on the pick. Are you going to make us look it up?

What are the chances Portland makes the playoffs in the next 3 years?

They are heavily incentivized to make playoffs otherwise they could lose their 2028 swap with milwaukee, which is potentially post giannis

Lakers have only 1 second
Knecht and 2nd for Por 1st, and Vando and Por 1st for Thybulle
Knecht and 2nd for Por 1st, and Vando and Por 1st for Thybulle
Defense wins draft lotteries!

Re: Port Pick for Cap Space/Young Talent
I don't see any team giving up much for a maybe #15 pick. All most teams would be willing to send ot would be be somebody they want to dump for salary not anybody with a future. I'm sure most teams see a real problem if PORT is within reach of the play in what's there incentive to win a could of their last games so they can be able to show up for 1 or 2 play in games when they could just as easily have a few players get mystery injuries so the lose and end up 13 or 14 and keep the pick. The Bulls are the only team who it's worth it to take the gamble that the Blazers are for sure out of lottery territory and convey the pick because it doesn't cost them anything to wait.
The pick is still worth the most in trade back to PORT

i believe its then 1 second, not 2. Its also a little strange because portland traded away their 2028 2nd/dont own any right now. i thought that was illegal to do so..?

Unless Chicago is adding a 2nd of their own, the Portland pick becomes a single 2028 2nd if not conveyed by then.

Who? Bulls or Blazers? Blazers 2nd round pick is tied up in the wording of the already traded pick. If Bulls are adding a 2nd pick to this trade if a 1st conveyed, it wouldn’t have to be 2028 specifically. But my point was that only 1 2nd is currently tied to the Blazers pick protections.

Blazers have some incentive to make the playoffs and didn’t use mystery injuries last year when it would have benefited. If the Blazers convey their pick, they get to keep their pick swap with the Bucks in 2028. If they truly think Bucks pick could become valuable enough, swapping with them would be important.

I’m pretty sure those are different picks anyway. The Yang trade brought us Hawks and Kings 2nds. I think the 2028 2nd we gave to the Wizards wasn’t ours in the first place while we had our own the whole time (but untradable since the 1st was given out).

I think it’s more if they haven’t reached the playoffs in the next two years, they’ll be heavily incentivized not to make the playoffs in 2027-2028 if Giannis isn’t in Milwaukee?
They will still get a swap in 2028 if they don’t convey the first, it just only exists if their pick is in the lottery as well.

I doubt the Blazers want to find themselves in a situation where they are intentionally missing the playoffs 3 seasons from now. That is more reason to have incentive to make the playoffs the next 2 seasons.
