Dal-SA-Cha

Dallas gets: Devin Vassel, Moussa Diabaté
SA gets: Klay Thompson, Tidjane Salaun
Cha gets: Daniel Gafford
Based on some prior posts by Jayjay, Dallas gets a much-needed SG, a guy who should be able to slide into a starting position right away. Dallas' center minutes should be mostly occupied by Lively and AD as they have PJ, Naji, and Flagg to play PF to give the team the best matchups. Diabate is cheap insurance at the 5 when AD and Lively miss time, which they will. SA turns Devin's big contract into smaller pieces. Wemby has spoken about his admiration for Salaun so maybe a change of scenery can do wonders. Klay opens up space for their guards, which also balances their roster a bit while saving money. Cha addresses their biggest hole without giving up any of their real assets

I don't think San Antonio is going to trade Vassell for Salaun and Thompson. But ... what about Keldon Johnson from San Antonio to Sacramento for Monk who goes to Dallas in place of Vassell?

I think SA owes value to dump Keldon, for Dallas I'd like the 2030 swap rights extinguished

Vassell hasn't been worth his contract, but the Spurs should have hope he will be more useful on court than Klay will be this year. I don't think with no immediate financial need to make this trade, they should consider it.
And Dallas should be prioritizing flexibility over adding a non-difference maker like Vassell until Kyrie/AD/Flagg demonstrate this is a good team that should look for upgrades on the edges.
Easy yes for Charlotte whether trying to win this year or not.

I don't have Diabate as a throw in and I don't really see point in the Hornets giving him up to get Gafford. If I'm running a young rebuilding team that is going to be starting a backup-caliber center, I'm going with the younger, cheaper option.

I doubt they'd do either.
Why would the Spurs trade Vassell for nothing in the original deal anyway? Klay is a disgruntled and overpaid bench guy, who is a huge risk of injury or further decline. Samsung is worthless.

That sounds absurd. Not only is SA not paying that, but they don't even want to move Keldon. He's a decent bench player, and a good locker room guy. Nor is there any financial crunch.

i like Moose but i think we have to do that if it's offered. somehow Gafford's only 26 (27 when the season starts). 3 years older than LaMelo, 4 years older than Miller, and the same age as other supporting pieces on our team in Bridges and Sexton. not like he doesn't fit the timeline.
I have a hard time seeing Diabate ever becoming a Gafford level big man, and an even harder time seeing Salaun be anything other than a liability for the rest of his rookie contract.

I still think CLT calls it PatCon+seconds to SAS, Diabate to Dallas.
And then if Dallas owes SAS a second or two or not based off Vassell’s contract. I’m lower, some might be higher. But there’s value in clearing the long term money.

What about
Sacramento out: Saric, Carter, 2nd(s)
Sacramento in: Salaun
Charlotte out: Salaun, 2nd(s)
Charlotte in: Gafford
Dallas out: Gafford
Dallas in: Carter, Saric, 2nd(s)

I certainly wouldn't do this if I was running SAS...

I don't think the Spurs are projected to go into the tax this season, so I don't know why they would downgrade their roster now for savings or a few second round picks.

even better for us
I see no reason for Dallas to do this though

Tidjane Salaun might be the worst rookie I've seen play ever, worse than Killian Hayes or Sekou.

Yea the Saric inclusion is the issue though, Dallas just paid to waive Omax, and still paying Javale. They cant keep doing moves like that, someone else would need to go out

You value Salaun higher than Carter?
I don't think Kings consider this.

I think kings would value salaun more since they want to bring in westbrook

Both had bad rookie years, so they'd consider it since they have a bigger need at forward. But wouldnt this deal work without the Saric inclusion?

will need to dump saric on a 3rd team. kings need to clear salary under the tax

Klay and Salaun have neutral value honestly. Vassel contract is not an issue for the Spurs this year, if he doesnt improve at all, next year his contract will be shorter, so if the idea is that he is not worth the money, next year he will be less negative than this one. I do have more hope to see Vassel improve than Salaun right now... Klay can space the floor, but there are cheaper options around I'd guess
