Kuminga for Lauri trade

Have we done this one?
Jazz get Kuminga (SnT), Podz, Hield, Moody
GSW get Lauri
Jazz get younger pieces to rebuild.
Warriors get a core 4 (Curry, Butler, Green, Lauri)

Spotrac is not loading for me right now but wouldn't the Jazz have to waive a few guys to do this? Are Podz and Moody all that much better than the youngsters they've already got?
Also I'm not sure they see Kuminga as a personality fit for what they're trying to do, or even think the value is very close.
Also the Warriors would be dangerously thin after their top 4, might not even be better than last year.

I would rather have nothing than have Kuminga.

Financially impossible.
However I would say that a Kuminga for Lauri based trade should have happened in the summer of 2022. Lauri would have upgraded/expanded on the role Otto Porter had in the 2022 title run instead of helping Utah win too much then get shut down with fake injuries. JK would have gotten free run on a rebuilding team. Ideally perhaps Wiseman and Kessler added - this matches salary and also gets Wiseman to a rebuilding situation.

This mirrors my feelings for Lauri at $45 million a year

Wiseman was terrible, though, no way we would have sent a recent first round pick for him.

Golden State can't really afford a third large contract, but if Lauri returns to form (which I expect he will) I do think he, Curry, and Butler are a perfectly balanced trio. It is too bad we didn't trade Lauri when he was cheaper, I would have loved to see him play for a real NBA franchise instead of what we've been doing. At least the team seems to be serious under Austin Ainge, they've picked a direction and actually made trades that fit that direction instead of trying to act as middle men buying cheap and hoping to sell high later.

When/if Kuminga signs the 1+1 (regardless of who gets the option) it’s something to look at in January. Would imagine it would require a decent amount of post Steph/Dray/Jimmy/Kerr draft capital as I doubt the Jazz have any interest in Kuminga. Probably buy him out or see if Phoenix or the Kings want to jump in as a third team if they got anything to offer the Jazz

I imagine some team would offer something of value for Kuminga. e.g., Monk + the San Antonio 1st from Sacramento. That would probably constitute a reasonable portion of the value for Lauri. We really valued Podz before, perhaps that is still the case (I don't think we should - not because he is bad, but because we have so many guard prospects already), and then I would hope for one good first. Say Golden State's 2028 1st? Would push for it to be unprotected, but could see sliding protections, too.
The problem is assembling the rest of the salaries. I don't think Golden State can do it without trading Draymond, and it seems pretty clear Curry won't want that.
Kuminga (to SAC for Monk + SAS 1st)
Podz
filler (is there any way to fill this?)
2028 GSW 1st (debate protections)
for
Lauri

Would need it to be a January deal when Kuminga is making $21 mil and no BYC (maybe a little bit more if a trade is already agreed to). He, Moody and Hield would cover it then. Probably hold out Podz in favor of pick protection negotiation. Probably move Cody Martin up the list of the FAs GS is connected to on a minimum.
Not sold on Lauri, but it's an interesting idea. My guess is the hope that the Pels fall off a cliff and the post Steph draft capital and Kuminga's possible expiring deal could get Murphy III instead

Yeh this doesn't make sense for the Jazz at all.

At least Lauri can play. Kuminga stinks.

That would be my guess, too (Murphy)

What about Kuminga + filler for MPJ? That feels like less of a massive outlay of value for Golden State (they can probably keep all of their picks?) while also getting them a player archetype that they probably need.
I don't know the exact mechanics, but the starting lineup is probably Curry-Butler-MPJ-Draymond-Horford which seems pretty well-balanced from a stylistic standpoint.

MPJ's pretty expensive - that's the problem Denver had with him. GS would gut depth matching salaries. I doubt it would be worth it.

Problem with GS is that they are paying ~85% of the cap for their big 3, with MPJ they'd be paying 105% of the cap for 4 players, they'd barely have minimums for full roster.
Lauri trade is practically illegal w/o trading one of the 3.

I don't understand why people are still ascribing this type of value to Kuminga. I really don't. There isn't an objective case to be made that he has this value on the contract he wants. It's not even clear that there's a market outside of Sacramento.

Is this a lot of value? Lauri is headed towards the 10 worst contracts list as his lone All-Star season gets smaller and smaller in the rearview mirror.
I'm not trying to sell anyone on Kuminga but I don't know that Lauri is a huge prize either at this point.

I'd rather have Lauri on his contract than Kuminga on the one he wants and it's not particularly close.

You don't have to give him the contract he wants...that's kinda the point of free agency. He doesn't get what he wants, he gets what the market will offer
