Best Guard for Naji Marshall?? Who ya got?

Post#1 » by daoneandonly » Mon Sep 8, 2025 5:40 pm

With PJ's extension (well deserved, IMO) and Anthony Day to Day's diva attitude about playing the 5; There are not many minutes at the PF position. Who is the best guard Dallas could get in a straight-up one-for-one swap for him?

Was specifically looking for a 1 for 1 swap. Monk makes more than all 3 guys combined and the market has shown his prototype just isn't worth that salary.

The money works. Monk makes the Mav’s better. So there’s that.

I'd do Naji + Hardy for Green

Can't do 3 for 1, Mavs hardcapped and no room below the Apron for minimum deals.

I don't think he does, though. He's pretty limited and is owed a lot more. Powell expires and Hardy is really 2 for 12, so I dont think Monk is worth his money, especially at the cost of Naji.

Oh Khalil, why :)

We know what Josh Green is, and Naji is so much better in almost every aspect. Not to mention, cheaper.

Don't start the thread if you aren't prepared to accept the responses you get, right? You may hate their suggestions which is fine, but they aren't trolling you with them.

As to the idea of the OP, Marshall is going to have an on-ball role on offense, so essentially going to be a guard on offense and its a switching league defensively.

What role are you specifically looking for? Because I think Dallas actually needs his on-ball play more than another shooter with Klay, Russell, and Christie all slotted to provide that. And Hardy sucks but he sucks a bit less as a shooter than as a guy with the ball in his hands.

And I like the Knife too, but I don't think he's a better player than Monk. I don't think Green for Marshall/bad salary is insulting even though I think this roster needs Marshall more currently.

I'd rather have Naji at 9 mil a year than Monk at 18, 20, and 21 the next 3 years, even subtracting Hardy's 2 years from that. I just think Naji is betetr bang for the buck

If Hardy is bad salary a 2 years 12 mil, then I don't know what we call Josh Green who makes more annually than Hardy's entire guarantee.

I think Marshall is better value too(at least now that the market has spoken on that, worth noting though the market said Monk was worth his contract and Marshall worth his much smaller one so....), but I was speaking to who was the better player.

I think Josh Green is a 4th guard in the NBA. He can't be targeted defensively, he makes enough shots to have to guard him, he has some secondary playmaking chops and he's great in transition both ways. He's not a good player, but he's playable.

Hardy is a much weaker defender, a worse shooter, is careless with the ball, and has done nothing to suggest he should be a regular in an NBA rotation. Now Green does make more money, but he's playable. Hardy? Dead weight.

When Dallas went to the Finals, Kidd played Green every game(3 DNP-CD's for Hardy) and he played 18 mpg in the playoffs. Hardy played less than 7. In the regular season Green started 33 games and played more than half the game. Hardy started 7 and played half as much as Green.

I don't have them the same caliber of player at all and obviously Kidd trusted one of them a good deal more.

Green is a better shooter and transition player, which is needed.

Ty Jerome would be perfect, but you'd likely need a third team.

I like him, but he's pretty limited offensively right? I do like the fit otherwise
