This isn't close. It's not fixable either.

Picks on which side of the deal?!
Nah, this is an unserious premise. Houston declines easily, and I don't mind the Boston pair here. Red and Tari are just worth more, younger and are cost controlled at a better price point.

This is like, a lotto pick off.

I think Reed Sheppard is seriously overvalued by this board given Houston's situation. Yes, Reed was the 3rd pick, albeit in a very unserious draft. Reed played 600 minutes, shot 35% from the floor, and Houston lost his minutes when he was on the court and the Rockets were 10 points better per 100 with Reed off the floor.
Payton Pritchard is signed for the next 3 yrs at $8 million per. He played 80 games last year, was a 17 PER guard with a 63% TS and, in the playoffs, he played 300 minutes and the Celts outscored playoff opponents by 14 points per 100 possessions with Pritchard on the court
There is in my opinion like maybe a 30% chance Reed Sheppard ever has a season as good as PP was last year, their trade value among NBA teams is not close, Pritchard is vastly more valuable

Not talking about Sheppard (I don’t value him either). Talking about Eason.

The cost control premise is way off…in fact backwards
Eason isn’t cost controlled. He is an RFA next season. Shepard makes more than both Pritchard and Hauser.
Hauser is under contract for 4 years
Pritchard 3
Shepard 3
Eason 1

I don’t like it for either team.
I wouldn’t think picks need to be added anyway.
Houston probably doesn’t want to sell low on Reed, though maybe they should bail when they can.
They probably want to and should be looking at Eason as a long term piece. He probably has more value after they sign him, assuming they do.

Financially, I don't think Houston can do this as-is. I also don't like the value for Houston. Something around Sheppard for Prichard makes more sense to me, but I am not sure that Boston can do that financially - may need a third team to take Hauser.

Boston making out like thieves here. The value is a mile off.

nah, Boston taking all the risk here, losing cost controlled players for the hope that Reed gets a lot better and the chance to pay Tari 2.5x what they have already locked down in Hauser
you have to look at it from the perspective of the new CBA with the aprons and so on... Paying Reed $10, $11, $14 million when he may not be an NBA player is a big ask, tho he may end up really good, but it's a BIG ask when Boston has $120 million committed to the Jays and they can't mess around and strike out with a salary slot that size

2.5 times more money for __ times a better player, yes.
A lottery pick from last year, a much better player in Eason, and picks is not "taking all the risk" when you're dealing a 5th/6th man and a JAG.

man, Reed just shot 36% from the floor in the summer league, after he shot 35% from the floor as a rookie, just not very good. Once a player is drafted, and you see the performance, it doesn't matter what spot they were picked in the draft. Marvin Bagley is not more valuable than Jalen Brunson, even though Bagley was a top 3 pick. James Wiseman is not more valuable Desmond Bane, even though Wiseman was a top 3 pick.
Tari Eason is a fine upside swing, an injury prone player who played in <50% of eligible games over the last two seasons, who is unsigned past this season and wants a big payday. By what metric, other than you claiming it, is Tari Eason a X times better player than Sam Hauser. Eason ws/48 over his career is .116 and in comparison Hauser is a career .134 win share per 48... if both were equal health and equal salary, you could argue that Eason is better. If you include health and compensation, Hauser wins on value imo

You should keep him then. HOU would laugh this deal off the phone.

obviously, as I think any front office executive would decide when looking at the Boston salary cap sheet, you would much rather have Sam Hauser than Tari Eason given the 2nd apron, repeater tax and relative health and salary of the two.
Obviously. I think the Celtics would laugh Houston off the phone if Houston called wanting Pritchard and Hauser for Eason and Sheppard, I don;t think the value is close, but this is a board where everyone has their own opinion, and if you value Eason and Sheppard in light of all the factors (health, production, etc) then I respect it! Thats the great thing, we can look at the data and reach our own conclusion!

I feel like Eason is overrated. He's young, but he isn't THAT young (he's almost 24 and a half now). He's a good defender, but I don't think he's super elite. And offensively he's still not proven as an adequate as a 3pt shooter. I mean, he came off the bench for a good, but not great Houston team last year. And, he's about to be PAID.
I mean, I like Eason, but the idea that he's this huge asset is something I don't understand.
....
Maybe the answer is just Pritchard for Reed. Both guys feel like they should be valued as late lotto pick.

I wouldnt give a lotto pick for either. I’d do a mid FRP for Pritchard, don’t really want Reed at all.

I think a more interesting idea would be Eason and Capela for Hauser and Sheierman.
I think Boston might need to add a future pick with moderate protection.
If the premise for Houston is they need a PG, then Pritchard for Eason and Tate seems like the deal.
From a Celtics pov I want nothing to do with Shepard at 3/36 followed by a 20 m QO.
