SAC - UTA (Carter for Hendricks)

------------------------------

SAC GETS: Taylor Hendricks
SAC GIVES: Devin Carter
WHY FOR SAC? The Kings have a plethora of guards (Schroder, Monk, LaVine, Ellis, Carter, & Clifford) so moving one for some size would be a welcome sight. Hendricks gives the Kings a legitimate PF (I see Murray as more of a SF) and could be a very good complement next to Sabonis if he can put it all together (size, length, athleticism, defense, shot blocking, shooting)

PG - Schroder / Monk
SG - LaVine / Ellis
SF - Murray / Clifford / McDermott
PF - Hendricks / DeRozan / Saric / Jones
C - Sabonis / Eubanks / Raynaud

------------------------------

UTA GETS: Devin Carter
UTA GIVES: Taylor Hendricks
WHY FOR UTA? Unlike the Kings, the Jazz have a lot of playable players in the frontcourt (many of them young). Moving Hendricks for Carter helps rebalance their roster a bit and give them some more youth & potential at the guard spot. Carter has the tools, feel for the game, athleticism, strength, and length to be a Marcus Smart, Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo, etc. type of player (which have obviously been very valuable come playoff time). Carter also has 1 more year on his rookie deal and makes less than Hendricks each year which helps keep UTA’s cap cleaner for longer.

PG - Collier / Clayton
SG - George / Carter / Svi
SF - Bailey / Williams / Sensabaugh
PF - Markkanen / Filipowski / Niang / Anderson
C - Kessler / Nurkic / Love

Utah doesn't need more guard prospects and we definitely aren't trading Hendricks for one.

George is our starting PG this year, Ace is our starting SG, and Sensabaugh is our backup SG. Lauri is probably starting at SF, and Hendricks or Filipowski at PF.

How does UTA view Hendricks these days in general?

Really liked him as a draft prospect, and like him even more for his rare fit next to Sabonis.

I think we like him a lot. Obviously he was injured last year, but as you said, a rare skillset. I do not think he is untouchable, but if I had to guess we would be less likely to trade him than anyone not named Ace.

Think Dorian Finney-Smith, but bigger and with more rim presence on both ends.

Would the calculus change if it was Ellis instead of Carter? He’s a bit older and won’t be on a rookie deal after this year though so assumed that wouldn’t be preferred.

No, I don't think it would. I like Ellis, but not enough to risk him walking at the end of the season when we traded our recent lottery pick for him.

This is a weird trade idea to bring up. Both guys have barely played due to injury and team fit and are of questionable value. The Jazz obviously say no because Hendricks has a more obvious NBA role if he gets a little better (he's the exact size you want at PF and has enough shooting and athleticism) whereas Carter's role in the NBA is less clear. Carter is also a terrible fit with the Jazz.

If there is a team that REALLY wants Hendricks, they can probably get him as Hendricks is a worse prospect than Ace and Filipowski and fits badly with both (and the Jazz have never liked Hendricks), but Hendricks has played 2 games in his entire career where the team wasn't trying to throw the game so he's so unproven that I doubt any team would trade for him right now.

There's been no report of this. What's your source, other than the recesses of your mind?

Hendrix has a clear path to successful career unless injury happens again. I don’t see the Jazz trading him for any guard unless it was a semi star level player.

That injury derailed his career and lowered his trajectory. It's a serious injury a lot of guys don't come back from.

The Jazz saying on draft night that they thought Hendricks was worse than every player picked in front of him?

Image

They also then loaded up the roster with PFs to block his minutes.

Well, he is back and looks fine, physically.

That doesn't remotely mean what you claim that it means, that "the Jazz have never liked Hendricks".

I’d pass if I were Utah. Feels like Hendricks has a lot more viable paths to being a rotation-level player

Just keeping it here but..

Brice and Hendricks for Carter, Saric, and a first with projection that doesn’t drop below 8? 10?

brice would be blocked in sacramento, not sure it adds value for them

I’m not sure any NBA SF that can shoot would be blocked in Sac this season.. Maybe if Demar is strictly called a SF and 1-2 of Ellis/Clifford play up?

PG = schroder/westbrook
SG/SF = Demar/Lavine/Monk/Ellis/Clifford

as things currently stand
