Kings send Devin Carter to Portland for Kris Murray.

Portland gets the higher upside player.

Kings get Keegan’s brother and a needed Keegan backup

There are four Carters and six Murrays active in the NBA, so you might edit the title.

I’d like to pair the Murray boys, but is POR going to have any minutes for Devon Carter?

Marketing.

Portland is in it for the higher upside, it’s not a trade for the right now. They have plenty of wings currently too. Carter could be a solid minutes player, Kris tops out at fringe backup. Kings just really need his player type at the moment and in the foreseeable future. Helps keep Keegan too.

I’d like to pair the Murray boys in Utah, but that's partially selfish based on my Iowa background. 8-)

I think Carter will ultimately be a more impactful NBA player. However, from a positional and skillset side of things -> I think Murray is still slightly more valuable.

I'd personally be interested if a 3-way trade could be worked out where Carter is sent elsewhere.

Portland has no room to develop Carter. I'd also rather have the wing over the guard. I don't think much of Murray, but I don't see a reason to do this deal.

Portland does not need Carter but I doubt Murray is an NBA player if he stayed in Portland

Replace Carter with Keon Ellis. Portland adds sweetener with a SRP or two.

This would be a good move for the new GM to make to get Sac fans to hate him. I wouldn’t like it if it was a first attached.

Too.rich for a bench player, who will be an UFA and probable 1 season rental.

I agree.

Carter reminds me a bit of Gary Payton II - similar height, wingspan, and skillset. If he’s used as a wing, or even as a combo forward, he could develop into a good bench player, at least. But he might be best served by a year in G-League.

From what I’ve heard, Murray is struggling to get minutes because of his shooting. Carter’s shooting is worse, so Portland might not be interested in this trade.

I like Carter more than Murray but he would be third string PG this season and fourth next season. This really only works for the Blazers if they think Scoot will miss extended time this season.
