Does anybody know if this also means they don’t plan on resigning hm next offseason when he’s a RFA? Curious if HOU is entertaining offers.

It means they weren’t able to agree on an extension before the deadline. Nothing more and nothing less.

Eason and his camp rightfully want top money for his class as his performance and growth curve warrant that 4/120 or 5/140 kind of deal.

The problem is quite obviously that Houston wanted to secure him on the cheap like a lot of guys who are either only string one way or are simply not as good.

They aren’t getting that kind of a break/deal and Eason also likely feels he should start.

They should look to move him for value or expiring money before the deadline or they will face an offer they cannot match with others due money (Sengun more than anyone) and he will walk for no return.

Disappointing for sure, but this is the reality of having so much depth. Not overpaying, is oh so critical.

I think that the likelihood that he is traded goes UP, as letting him hit restricted free agency is very risky, since teams could easily offer a deal we would be unable to match. He could very easily end up having an insane year driving his contract up. Sadly best case scenario is likely he has another injury plagued year, which drives his price DOWN.

Fingers crossed a good consolidation trade becomes available, which can alleviate some of the cap crunch.

I imagine the fact that there's no starting role available to Eason on the rockets also affected the negotiation. Rockets want to pay him like a bench player and Eason think he can start and earn more on other teams

He's not wrong. Not only are there many teams he could start for, but teams like the Wizards, Hornets, and Jazz would consider getting him for nothing but cap space a minor coup.

I do think it means they will be more willing to explore a trade rather than risk a big RFA offer

Would love him on the Kings. Would be a tremendous fit at PF between Murray (SF) and Sabonis (C).

I assume it would take something like Carter + a 1st or 2 1sts to get it done.

I assume they would love to keep him, but the aprons are going to force them to make some choices. You can't afford to pay guys starter money to play bench roles.

They should be calling right now. If they are willing to give up Carter and draft capital there’s no reason to wait to make the offer.

I don't think Houston does that. Kings have essentially blasted any chance at getting value for Carter. Monte drafts an injured guy, we fire monte, new GM makes it clear for 3 months he'd rather have 30+ year old vets than give Carter a chance.

It probably takes Keon + some.

Keon is my favorite player and It would kill me to see him go be the perfect role player in Houston. That said, Kings management and team building is so awful, its likely Keon gets squeezed for minutes anyway. Nique - Keegan - Eason is at least an interesting fit 2-4 and gives us some actual size.

Carter has no value, and a Minnesota is a top team in the league, so that is what amounts to late first, that is a non starter.

Monk is a replacement level player, and we can't tie up cap for non impactful players. Trying to get Adams as well, another highly impactful player only makes the value proposition worse.

We still have flexibility to move Capela / DFS to free up money for Tari, which should be the contingency play. So yea, there won't be any sweetheart deals. Tari could probably be had, but the price tag would be very expensive.

Ellis + Sac 2026 #1 and Sac 2027 #1, both with limited protections.

Get ready for a slew of Kuzma plus swap or Grant + type offers.

Right now before the trade deadline it’s probably going take Ellis + 1 of Sac own first minimally protected.

I think Houston would be better off figuring out who’s their top 8 for the next 2 season and how the team mesh this season before deciding if they should move Eason. On paper he should be amongst that 8.

For some reason I thought of the Bulls roster even though you mentioned sabonis and murray lol, my bad.

You can probably get expirings for DDR and Monk at the deadline if you choose to tank the season, but not sure thats enough money since Murray will start his contract , so... Unless Lavine starts hot and someone offers something for him, but at his price, won't be expirings probably
