Not sure how to balance this, but:

MIN trades: Naz Reid, Donte DiVencenzo
POR trades: Jrue Holiday, ???

Portland gets younger and more shooting for a guy who was reported to be upset by being traded there.

Minnesota gets an actual point guard who, IMO, looked effective in preseason and in the first game of the season against Minnesota.


Some similar ideas would be Naz + Conley for Holiday, or Naz + Conley for McCollum.

I think you'd be starting DDV there with Avdija having the primary ball handling responsibilities, but YMMV. I think it depends on your assessment of Portland's upside. I think they are on the bubble for being a play-in team, and that is not the kind of result where I think you hold Holiday rather than moving him for assets/flexibility. But I also see the logic that - if Scoot is going to level up - there are no better mentors than Dame + Jrue.

Not long enough.

I love Jrue paired with any high usage guard. And the defense of Jrue/McDaniels/Rudy feels pretty ideal..

I think Portland widely wins the value in the OP and owes a good amount. But if they want to make the playoffs (which they seem to want to) they should pass.

Disagree with their direction, but Jrue helps more with it..

I agree Portland wins on value and I am also skeptical it makes their team better.. really not ideal to pay your 3rd and 4th best forwards almost 60M for next few years...

I dont think Wolves should do this as they need a longer term solution. Holiday has maybe 1 good year left in him imo

Jrue was not upset by being traded to the Blazers. That was propaganda coming out of Boston from people upset at lossing Jrue. Jrue has been very happy in Portland.

Portland "may" consider trading Jrue, but not before the 2026 draft. By then, they should know how well Dame's injury has healed.

I don't see much of any chance that the Wolves would trade for a mid 30s PG. I would bet that Minnesota won't give up significant assets for a player unless they fit the timeline with Edwards (24), McDaniels (25), Reid (26), Shannon (25), Clark (24), Dillingham (20), and Beringer (18).

I agree that the PG situation is a bit shaky, though I'm not putting too much stock in a single game against one of the few teams who have a roster that can effectively weaponize full court ball pressure. My guess is that the Wolves wait to see how things shake out for the next couple of months and then assess the roster. Even if the Wolves do end up making a move, I expect it to be of the smaller variety (likely a bench PG who doesn't cost much).

Do you see Dillinghsm as the long term solution?

I think Jrue's contract and the inclusion of Naz kills this from the Wolves perspective. Just trade DDV for a less expensive option.

That's a question that I think could go either way. Dillinham hasn't gotten any real chance yet for meaningful minutes at the NBA level, and even in his limited opportunities he's been wildly inconsistent. There have been stretches of play where he's looked like a starter level playmaker/scorer and other times that make me seriously wonder about his future. Being only 20 means he has plenty of time to develop, but at some point he's going to have to step up and force his way into the rotation (something he didn't do in the preseason).

Easy no from Minnesota. Jrue is still a very good player but his defense has slipped some. He’s 35 and owed over 100m over the next three years. He’s a negative contract in my mind. As a player, I’d love him on the Wolves. But not on that contract and not for two good, younger players on neutral to positive contracts.

This is terrible for the Wolves.

Something around Conley+picks makes more sense.

Portland is under FBI scrutiny, this isn't the time to try to pry a good PG from them for an overrated overpaid backup big who might be the worst defender in the NBA.
