MIN trades: Naz Reid, Mike Conley
WAS trades: CJ McCollum
A bit of a ruthless deal for Minnesota, but they move for a point guard which they are clearly in desperate need of. Perhaps there is a variation with DDV instead of Conley that returns an additional asset from Washington?
Washington's power forward rotation is thin. This gives them a nice backup there who is young enough to hang around as the kids develop. I imagine they release Conley so he can sign with a contender.

McCollum isn’t a point guard (Conley is) and the value difference is way off here.

Wiz say no. Obviously Reid is a good player, but he might hurt the tank (they need to ensure they finish with a top 4 worst record to ensure they don't lose their 1st rounder to the Knicks in 2026). By having no vet bigs with beef around Sarr, they are ensuring they lose a ton of games that way. Plus, they want to use their 100+ million in 2026-2027 cap space for taking on bad deals for picks.

Wizards say yes and find a third team to give value for Naz (there will be a long line of teams willing to do so). But I suspect DDV would be the offer here with the same result. Tbc, I'm not sure Wolves can consolidate.

CJ is not a long term solution for us, and Naz is too valuable to give away on a rental who is already past his prime and not a true PG.

Wizards easily say yes here. Naz Reid is ranked somewhere between the 100th and 200th best players in the league. That player isn't meaningfully hurting a tank.
This deal isn't beneficial for Minnesota, as it doesn't actually address any of its pressing issues.

This is unsalvageable, to be honest.
Reid is the best player and asset in this deal, so they're already losing out there. And while the Wolves do need a PG they aren't to the point of desperation where they'd trade Reid for a guy who isn't a PG anyway.
And beyond plugging an immediate hole, what does this deal really do for the Wolves anyway? Does it move them closer to title contention? Debatable, since it sends out our 3rd leading scorer from last season with no way to replace him and further muddies an already crowded guard rotation. Does it make them better in the future? Not from a talent perspective, since McCollum is 34 and has been trending downwards. Maybe financially, since he's expiring? But if that was of concern the Wolves had other options in the summer to address it and didn't. So yeah, just a non-starter.

Yeah, obviously the Wizards would do this for the value and then try and flip Naz elsewhere. But this is a bad deal for Minnesota. They are giving up too much value.

Feels like a lot of teams beat this very easily. Kings can offer Schroder/Monk for this same package happily. Would love to add Naz to Sac, especially if tanking is off the table. Would include Eubanks if they want him as well.
Kings could buy out Conley and let him join the Lakers or whatever contender has mins for him.
Sabonis/Cardwell/Maxime
Naz/Demar
Keegan/Nique
LaVine/Keon
Westbrook/Carter
Gobert/Eubanks/Beringer
Randle/Miller
McDaniels/Shannon
Edwards/DDV
Schroder/Monk

I agree kings can outbid this but wolves would prefer CJ over schroder/monk imo.

Due to contract or play?
Because I think both lean towards the Kings.

The value is way off. Wolves don’t consider this.

I think a third team would need to be looped in to receive Naz, sending someone else to the Wiz and value to Minnesota
