whats the Market for contract year Colin Sexton

Post#1 » by GoBobs » Wed Oct 29, 2025 12:33 pm

Started off the season hot!

18 ppg 4.8 ast in about 26 minutes, currently shooting 60% from 3 though four games. True shooting percentage of .702 :o

under contract for this year only at 19 mil

Ideal fit is a team that is going to contend this year or wants to. If he keeps playing well it would probably take a middle of the pack first round pick to move him.

Given that regression to the mean is a thing, is he a fundamentally different player than he was in Utah the past three seasons when he averaged 17.5 pts and 4.2 ast on 40% 3FG% and 60% TS% in about 26 minutes and the Jazz had to attach assets to him in exchange for an expiring Nurkic? Look, I love the kid, but I've been through this drill before — thinking that his value should be higher than it is. Reality bites.

Considering Utah paid to swap him for Nurkic a player dumped repeatedly, this ask of a mid 1st after 4 games feels a lot optimistic. But hey if you can get it get it.

But I'd set my sights a fair bit lower.

You probably can get a first if you take on a bad contract, but Sexton probably will keep him to keep trying being competitive

in the two games of ours that I've watched so far, Sexton is exactly what we need in the backcourt, both backing up and playing alongside LaMelo.

Given it's been all of 4 games since Utah PAID US to swap Nurkic for him, I'm not anticipating him having the level of trade value needed for us to move him. As of today, I'd be happy to extend him for 2-3 years at his current salary, maybe more if it continues.

I’d still happily do Gafford, Hardy and seconds for Sexton.

But I don’t think either team actually looks at that deal.

If he keeps shooting this well, I agree Charlotte can get a mid first for him despite being an expiring. But I expect him to go back to being the good player he actually is..

As a Pistons fan, I'd do Lavert and seconds.

The Pistons desperately need a guy like Sexton. I don't know how attractive that offer is for the Hornets, but the Pistons got carried away assembling physical guys who are plus defenders and forgot about needing to be able to get the ball in the hoop.

He has been a hyper-efficient guard for a long time. He will obviously not be a 60/60/90 player all season, but with Utah his TS was about 61% which is exceptional for a guard. I don't think his value has fundamentally changed, but I also think Utah lost on value to get a player that they knew fit what Hardy is trying to do offensively. We've seen Nurkic provide more on-court value in three games than Sexton typically did on a game-to-game basis. I would expect expirings + 2nds to be the best that would be offered given his pretty obvious limitations. Players generally don't gain a ton of value when switching teams unless there is a clear change in their role that they have scaled up to. I don't think that will describe Sexton, even if his TS improves a bit (say, 63 percent for the season instead of 61).

The pistons didn't forget about scoring. They just have Jaden ivey sitting in street clothes and Malik Beasley in investigation limbo. Your are right about needing the extra perimeter firepower though.

In a league where short combo guards are extremely de-valued, Sexton is literally one of the worst defenders in the league by everyone who measures it. It's probably impossible to convince a contender that he's what they need to win a title.

He probably has more value as expiring salary, but I could also see him go to Milwaukee for Kuzma. But even then, they might be able to get Grimes or Cam Thomas.

I think there are teams like the Pistons, Rockets, and Spurs who just need someone who can come in as a sixth man and get the ball in the hoop. They're loaded with role players who can defend, and given the fact that Sexton is on an expiring contract, it's not a long term commitment.

I suspect it takes a first to turn Kuzma into Sexton.

If he approaches 50% 3 point shooting by the trade deadline probably worth a late first still.

If around 40% 3point % then one or two second round picks.

Team have to be wanting more offensive output and willing to take him being targeted in the playoffs though .

I don’t see how Charlotte gets a first without taking a bad contract back. With how hard of a time they’ve had building a roster, I’d just hang onto him build a relationship and hope he sticks around at the inevitable pay decrease

LeVert and seconds seems like the most realistic deal.

If we can pull an OKC Horford, CP3 style trade it would be great. OKC were paid a 1st round pick to take Horford then paid a 1st round pick for someone else to trade for him.

It happens, but it’s a bit early for that to happen with sexton. If he fits like the front office says he does, I think we resign him.

Anyone want Bridges yet?

Hornets definitely should hold to Sexton until the trade deadline, injuries always happen and a team looking to compete might be down a scorer off the bench that could be useful. getting a first and a bad contract(Kuzma and a first would make sense if Bucks lose Gary Trent to injury let's say) would be ideal.

To your question, I wonder if other teams still care about the optics of having Bridges on their team.

i think you're gonna get a lot more no's than yes's, with the no's being an even split between his character and his garbage play for a sizeable chunk of the last two years (the latter of which, I blame the Hornets for not having enough scoring options to force Bridges into a smaller more manageable role. Bridges needs to have John Collins' role in an offense, not isoing and jacking 7 threes a game)

I don't think 2021 Bridges is coming back.

This guy is a mystery to me, I like his game a lot, but impact stats hate him, and has been traded twice without much value assigned, and I never could put my finger on why...

I'd say once without much value; he was a key component of the Mitchell trade. i love the kid, but I get the general devaluing of scoring guards, particularly undersized ones, who are sieves.
