Kalkbrenner for Broome and seconds?

Post#1 » by jayjaysee » Fri Jul 24, 2026 8:52 pm

Random nothing that I liked.

Kalkbrenner for Bona, 2027 2nd (best of GSW/PHX), 2031 Philly 2nd

Charlotte - gets a replacement prospect big and a couple more seconds for their recent find in second round.

Philly - gets a higher floor minutes eater for when Joel needs to sit.

Think Charlotte has enough seconds and are better off keeping kalk

Agreed. Kalkbrenner is about the best you could hope for from a second round pick and well above the median result.
This will end badly

I'm not all that high on Kalkbrenner, but I wouldn't just throw him away. If he's incentive in a bigger deal to get us something we need, sure, but I wouldn't do this or anything resembling it. We have on average 3 2nds per season for the next 7 years, and already have no way of rostering most of the upcoming ones, before a single one in our stash has even conveyed.

Also you have Bona in the post but Broome in the title. Not that it really matters either way.

I wish I thought the Hornets would do this, but I doubt it.

That's a perfect target for the Sixers.

What's the point of trading a 2nd round big that's NBA playable for an unplayable guy and two 2nds that 90% won't be as good

Do you like Pippen Jr for Kalk? Assuming mem moves Pippen Jr for seconds from Philly?

Or do you think CLT would add anything to Kalk to get Philon from Philly?

Seems like there should be a deal here as Kalk likely has a low floor so trading him with the most rookie contract time left seems the best way to improve the asset (accepting my OP was short)

I did originally have Broome as he was an early second round pick similar to Kalk who was hurt, but just looked good in summer league.. Not sure when why I changed it ITT. A miss is a miss.

Kalk has a low floor? Or did you mean ceiling? Because his floor seems to be as a playable backup center. And his ceiling is probably good backup center.

Agreed this would be great for Philly while not doing much for Charlotte.

Definitely mistype.

But I do I view him having a low floor / low ceiling. From a good break glass 3rd string center to a good backup center. Seems a low floor / low ceiling…

don't mind either of those ideas.

I could see Pippen being interesting if his foot injury isn't some lingering issue. Philon would be odd because we simply could've just drafted him instead of Christian Anderson, but wouldn't necessarily be opposed to the idea of having several playable young guys there at PG.

and yeah that's a pretty proper assessment of Kalk. Until he gets a lot stronger, he's just a guy who does exactly what you expect a lot of reach and not much functional strength to do- dunk open shots at the basket and block some shots, and that's about it.

I tend to like to hold onto those guys and hope they develop some skills or more strength but we may have our C rotation covered.

Charlotte shouldn’t do this. Reid can’t defend bigs, they need Kalk. The value in O.P. is terrible for Charlotte.

Looking at his play last year, we got 21 minutes per game from a rookie who played 69 total games. In those minutes he gave us 7.6 pt, 5.5 reb, 1.5 blk, .762 true shooting percentage.

So that is like 12 pts, 9 reb, 2.5 blk per 36 minutes.

So I would say he is already good backup center level. Half his value is in his play, and half his value is in the contract he is signed to. Under 3 mil per year for the next three years is pretty good for anyone that can be in the rotation.

I think we would probably need at least a future first instead of 2nds.

Kalk is cheap solid big man depth in an offseason that saw bigs get paid. He probably has more value than just random 2nds, but even if he didnt, Charlotte has no reason to give him up for anything but an overpay until they see what happens this year with Moussa.

What about 4 2nds or 2 2nds and a swap in a few years?

Would also be interested in Diabate if Cha wants Philon or a 1st and swap(s)

Yeah, I missed value in the OP. But there should be a deal here imo..

Wonder if Philly actually wants to see what Broome/Bona look like this season. Either one could develop into a decent backup center imo.

Diabate is probably more available because this is the last year of his cheap deal. 1st probably gets it done.

Neither is worth the only first Philly can trade (if I’m right) Philly’s only first available is a 2033 due to owing 2028 and 2031.

Could be swap off the 2029 LAC first and a 2030 swap?

There's no first round pick available anywhere for Kalkbrenner or Diabate.

I could see two PHI seconds to Memphis, Pippen Jr to Charlotte, and Charlotte choice of one of those two centers back to Philly, though.

I like this but if Sixers can get Richards then that's the better path.

They don't have money to sign anyone else. Who was his last team? Would they do a S&T for Bona and Walker?
