MPJ to Warriors; Black to Nets

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Fri Jul 24, 2026 8:59 pm

Now that the LeBron domino has fallen, the Warriors need to pivot and look to stay competitive. Ill offer this idea:

To Golden State (Trade Butler, 2 1sts)
-Michael Porter Jr. (1 year, $40.8 million)
-Terrence Mann (2 years, $31.5 million)
-2028 Brooklyn 2nd round pick
-2030 Brooklyn 2nd round pick

To Brooklyn (Trade Porter, Mann, 2 2nds)
-Jimmy Butler (1 year, $56.8 million)
-Anthony Black (1 year, $10.1 million plus QO)
-2028 Golden State 1st round pick

To Orlando (Trade Black)
-2030 Golden State 1st round pick

Why?
-The Warriors make a move to get a SF/PF in his prime years who can provide legit secondary scoring for Warriors next to Curry. They can look to extend Porter

Curry/Payton?
Podz/Melton/Mann/Richard
Porter Jr./Moody/Santos
Green/Lendeborg/FA?
Porzingis/Horford/FA?

-The Nets sell high on MPJ as they dump the Mann contract and clear books to a greater degree for summer of 2027 while picking up another 2 1sts through building process. Butler could be bought out early in 2027 once he is healthy

Traore/Semin/Saraf
Black/Moore/Butler
Ellis/Powell/Minnott
Randle/Clowney/Wolf/Jefferson
Sharpe/Wagner

-The Magic move Black and shave $10 million off cap plus associated tax amount as they reduce their tax bill. They can look to add depth in backcourt with veteran minimum player ie. Bradley Beal)

Suggs/Carter
Bane/FA?/Richardson
Wagner/Da Silva/Cain/Penda
Banchero/Isaac
Carter Jr./Bitadze/Vucevic

You may have missed it, but there was a report this week from KOC that the Warriors had no interest in MPJ last year before the trade deadline (though I had been interested before Jimmy got injured). I doubt the Warriors are paying 2 picks for an expiring MPJ (realizing Butler is a negative).

“Sources say that Steve Kerr didn’t want MPJ in February, and there is little reason to believe he would want him now,” O’Connor wrote.

I like MPJ and hoped we traded for him last year before Jimmy got injured. Missing out on LeBron on the cheap or an opportunity for someone like Brown I think means the Warriors aren't making major moves.

I like MPJ and while Kerr wasn’t sold on him last deadline I think he could be encouraged to pivot-being less rigid was reportedly part of the deal when he agreed to return.

But I don’t think he’s worth two firsts unless we’re talking strong protections and I don’t think GS would be up for giving him the extension he’ll want.

Pretty clear Lacob’s goal is clean books and all the picks by 2028. At least until Steph messes it up again and does another extension

What other options do they have to add talent at this point that fits with their existing core?. The FO needs to identify what direction they want to go in: re-tool around Steph by trading assets or start rebuilding and accumulate assets?

I can bet they won't pivot to old friend Kuminga...
IMO they should look to do an around the edges trade. Moody is a good player, but will be out for a while. A new team that is future minded could swap a win-now guy for him (Marshall from Dallas) and then use his injury as a way to extend him on a team-friendly deal through his prime.

Not much they can do without a little help. Best players available to sign might be Brad Beal, Bruce Brown, sign and trade for Mathurin? Not a lot out there and they don't have matching salaries to play with...

There really aren't many options now, and your questions about direction are the main topics on the Warrior board. The consensus amongst fans is treadmill mediocrity for years as the FO is generally indecisive and always looking and waiting for some perfect deal for a superstar that doesn't exist.

If not for KP, I would say the Warriors days of hitting that spark at the right time and making a last play would be dead.
KP is the archetype for a player who gives Wemby trouble by making him play both sides.
It certainly ain't enough and KP is in street clothes more than a jersey, but that's the sliver of a chance.
I hated the Butler trade. Hated more the re-sign of Butler. If not for you guys he would be on a mid-level somewhere.

Seems like Warriors want to try the Curry-Butler-Green trio.

I mean how many more seasons is Steph going to play: 2, possibly 3 tops?. He'll be 39 in March. The Warriors are a 35 win team right now if all goes well and strong chance they dont even make the play in. I think they just land another lottery pick in 2027, look to sign Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving next summer and convince LeBron, to opt out and join Steph, Jimmy Butler and Draymond (6th man) for 1 last hurrah in 2027-2028.

I'd personally rather keep Black, but financially it may not be an option. It's a good trade assuming he's gone

Orlando seems to want out, and for Brooklyn I would rather they stay out. I would value an additional GSW 1st over a year of Black before an expensive RFA.

This is actually 2 sequential trades lumped as one:

Trade 1: GSW and Brooklyn Nets

Golden State Warriors get:
-Michael Porter Jr. (1 year, $40.8 million)
-Terrence Mann (2 years, $31.5 million)
-2028 Brooklyn 2nd round pick

-2030 Golden State 1st round pick

Trade 2: Orlando Magic and Brooklyn Nets

Orlando Magic get:
-2030 Golden State 1st round pick

Brooklyn Nets get:
-Anthony Black (1 year, $10.1 million plus QO)

I think breaking the trade this way exposes trade 1 is an overpay for MPJ (2 firsts and taking back Mann is too much, even if yoiu get back 2 seconds), and trade 2 is an overpay for Black (absorbing Black and 2030 Warriors pick is too juicy when he's entering his last rookie scale deal needs to get paid soon, maybe 2028 is closer). Warriors shouldn't do this.

Pretty ballsy and lame AF to give two teams the same pick to accuse the OP of a overpay. Maybe if you didn't misrepresent the deal it would be better when you attempt to analyze it. Just a suggestion.

This isn't me speaking to the deal at all btw, just pointing what you did here.

Unless the Magic have a follow up trade for a PG lined up, I'm availing myself of Black's last cheap year if I run the Magic. If he improves, then I can always decide how attached I am to Suggs, Bane, Franz, and/or Banchero next summer. I just think it's bad business to move guys you might want to pay for a first that conveys five years from now when you're a playoff team. You move prospects you've concluded your not going to pay.
This will end badly

Huh? I laid down a pretty straight forward framework to break down a complicated 3-way deal into 2 simple, sequential trades:
1) Warriors and Nets exchange picks and players
2) Nets turn around and trade one of the picks they received for Anthony Black
Brooklyn gets two firsts, then trades one for Black. No team ends up with the same pick, so nothing was misrepresented. Yet here you are, discussing the poster rather than the argument... once again.
