76ers get:

Joel Embiid doesn't make sense anywhere, unless they get 3 or firsts to eat the deal

The Wizards won't trade AD without getting some real value and dumping Embiid requires at least two first round picks. So given those realities Philadelphia doesn't have the assets to pull that off, even with a third team taking Embiid.

Think the obvious fit for OP is
Butler to Washington
Joel to GSW
AD to Philly
Throw in whatever value from Philly to Washington. Maybe add value from GSW if you send them some wings..
No 2-3 firsts to dump a guy that is a top 10 player in the league 40-50 games a year. Just find a team desperate enough to be respectable to convert the money.

Philly would have to give up assets to the Wiz for AD and to GS for taking on Embiid’s two additional years in 60+ mil with his health.
Do they even have that much in the war chest left?

Don't worry about it. These other teams are just here to help the 76ers and LeBron, obviously.NW wrote:jayjaysee wrote:Think the obvious fit for OP is

Why does any sane GM want Embid and that contract (and weak knees)?

Re: Help Me Complete The 3-Team Trade: AD to PHI / Embiid to Team X
Team X needs at least two to three first round picks to take Embiid's deal. The Wizards aren't trading AD for that poo-poo platter, having to pay to buy out Kuzma who the Wizards dumped on Milwaukee for value, Turner who's a negative value contract, and a single first round pick.JimmyPlopper wrote:NYG wrote:I can't quite land on the deal, but some version of this makes a ton of sense...

Re: Help Me Complete The 3-Team Trade: AD to PHI / Embiid to Team X
When you have an injury prone player that you are trading for an injury prone player you don't get to ask for well more than you paid for your injury prone player and then ask for additional compensation for taking on the entire contract of the other injury prone player as if you are sending out no dicey money of your own.
Its double counting.
This won't stop of course. But it really should. Its not constructive.

Re: Help Me Complete The 3-Team Trade: AD to PHI / Embiid to Team X
I struggle a bit with the whole premise.
The Sixers would rather have AD than Embiid?
Idk.
And is there much of a real value difference between AD and Embiid.

To Wiz: Gafford/PJ/Thompson
To Mavs: Embiid/Wiz Filler Player/2029 76ers FRP (with clippers swap rights)
To 76ers: Davis
Embiid and Lively can try and remain healthy (with some Aldama to load manage).

Re: Help Me Complete The 3-Team Trade: AD to PHI / Embiid to Team X
Dallas is a team rumored to have interest in Embiid though its possible that's not real and its just Masai related speculation.
Philly would have to send a min contract to Dallas as AD makes more money. But I've posted basically that offer for Embiid here before (maybe where you got it?).
Of course Wizards fans will hate it. Because they believe neither Gafford nor Washington are good enough players to play for them --this was posted here already lol. And they believe that AD suddenly got really valuable in the past few months though none of them can provide a credible reason why.
I actually think if their goal is to be competitive with their young core, adding two solid vets like Gafford and Washington to Trae and the kids is really smart. Both flippable for value too if the mix didn't work.
All that said, I hate the concept for Philly and would very quickly cut out Washington would work better on this board too because we wouldn't have to deal with current Wizard narratives.

He hasn't played at that level since '24, and he hasn't played that many games since '23. More likely you get fringe Allstar level for ~30 games.
It's not impossible he bounces back, but imo he is clearly into negative value territory due to how huge that contract is (3 years, 62.6 M/yr remaining).
I bought a boat.

You are the only one around that thinks that AD is some type of terrible contract with negative value and that the Wizards should be happy to dump him. The reality is simple. The Wizards are PERFECTLY HAPPY with AD on the roster. The Wizards think he is still a top 25 player and he will probably play 55-65 games. And they have the big man depth to load manage him and the cap room to pay him (for the next 2 years, at least).
Having AD on the roster for the next 2 years is WAY BETTER than having Embiid on the roster for 3, or having Gafford and Washington, or having Kuzma and Turner. Whether you think that's smart or not is irrelevant. It's the position the Wizards have taken. If somebody wants AD, they're going to have to offer Wizards something they value more than AD for the next two seasons. Embiid's contract plus one pick swap in 2033 isn't going to cut it. It's laughable.

Pretending Dallas actually wants to keep 2028 cap space..
Monk and Sabonis to Dallas
Joel and Martin to Sac
Gafford, PJ, Klay to Philly
Throw in a vet min wherever. Give Sac whatever asset(s) Philly owes.
Dallas - keeps 2028 cap space dreams while making life easier on Flagg/kids for the next couple years.
Philly - trade upside/risk for solid play.
Sac - take on an extra year of Joel to get a first or a Philon and a swap or whatever? Maxime gets to start all the games Joel misses while they avoid relegation..

You want to assign that position to me, you are going to need some receipts.
This trade certainly is valuing him as positive value. I have repeatedly said I thought he would return minor value, just not the extreme valuations like Embiid plus 5 firsts I notice you didn't challenge when its been posted multiple times. I think he has the same value he had when Dallas traded him which is why you saw me post over and over I didn't want Dallas to trade him because like you I wanted to gamble on him being healthy because he's really good when he plays. But I never tried to claim he held much value when he was a Maverick because well he didn't.
Your need to move goalposts and invent narratives to fight against is really weird right now. You and I have long disagreed on value of most Wizard players, but I don't recall you going this route. I typically enjoy your takes even when I disagree, but on AD IDK what's happening? Hope you kinda come back.

Double counting?
Embiid games last three years: 86
Davis game last three years: 147
70.9% more games over a three year period or 20 games a year.
Embiid salaries: 58, 62, 67
Davis salaries: 58, Player option-63
One year of additional salary for Embiid
Advanced statistics last three years: Defense for Davis, offense for Embiid.
The best option for the 76ers is to keep Embiid and hope he can be healthy. The best option for the Wizards is not to extend AD, keep him until at least the trade deadline, and hope he can be healthy. The nature of their injury histories is also quite different, which is a consideration projecting forward.
Davis is easier to fit into teams becasuse his skills--offensive rebounding, rim-running, and elite rim protection do not negatively impact the offensive game of other players versus Embiid's amazing offensive impact, but which also comes with very high usage.
So, I may be engaging in hyperbole and a tad bit of "double-counting" but I think it's fair to say that AD has mildly positive trade value and Embiid has negative trade value. How negative that value depends on the team acquiring him. Perhaps I should have said only three or four picks/pick swaps is the difference between them.
An additional year of salary for Embiid is no small consideration. Of course, if the Wizards stupidly extend AD to a large extension that argument is moot and AD's contract replaces Embiid's as the worst in the NBA.

Yeah, I think he’s clearly negative value as well. Just have him less negative than a lot of posters here.
