Jrue Holiday - Best offer?

Jrue Has multiple Championships, he's a phenomenal teammate and mentor, and he can still play.

Obviously, the Blazers roster is unbalanced with Dame, Morant, Jrue, Scoot, Shaedon Sharp and possibly Camara trying to splt minutes between the 1 and 2 spots. At this point Blazers need a tall, 3point shooting threat, ideally with the capacity for dribble penetration.

One local Portland sports writer proposed the following (no sources, purely his speculation)

Salary remaining on current contract
26-27: $34,800,000
27-28: $37,200,000 (player option)

Dundon has proven he's willing to take on "distressed" assets for a clear talent upgrade. Ideally, contracts would not extend past 27-28 to free up money to resign Avdija, but if that is not feasible, the Blazers may have to look at trading Avdija down the road also.

What's your teams best offer?

Is Portland's primary goal clearing cap space for a raise and extend next summer, adding win-now help at SF/PF, or long-term assets?

As a fan, my primary hope is that they balance out the roster with a SF/PF type wing. If they can do that without taking on a long term contract that extends past 28, then great. If they cannot then I can see a scenario where that influences the plan with Deni after this season.

You've been pitching this message for awhile now. He's got the 50th contract in the league.

Also, this is not a question to sign him as a free agent, it's to trade him, which means the other team is sending out equal salary.

IMHO, the question is, does Jrue help a team win, yes. Next does he help a team win more than the other higher salaries on their current roster...?

Jrue and Lee were with the Cs at the same time so there is a relationship there presumably.

Jrue can play both guard positions so honestly I would keep him if I’m Portland, but yeah with Dame, Morant and Scoot that’s a lot of guys to work on for ball handling duties. Jrue is the most versatile of those guys though. Even at his age he can bring a lot.

I'd love to see Jrue in Dallas, but I think PJ is a bit too expensive long term to make sense for Portland. Cam Johnson on the other hand would seem to be a good fit. Maybe something like this where Denver saves enough money to re-sign Watson?

PDX: Jrue for Johnson, Klay

Cam Johnson would be an ideal fit for the Blazers IMHO. They would have a nice rotation to cover the 2/3/4 between Avdija, Cam, Camara and Sharp.

William, DFS and Allen doesn't work in thr trade checker. It does if they do Allen, Williams and Royce O'Neal.

I was looking at a block buster three-way though

CHA: $40M TE for Jamaal Murray

DEN: Jamal Murray to CHA, Cam Johnson to Blazers
Jrue Holiday to Den (frees up $$$ to resign Watson

POR: Jrue to Denver, Cam to Blazers

However, I can't get that to work in the trade checker either

I would do Jrue and Cidy Sissoko for Cam Johnson in a heartbeat.

Pairing Jrue and Egor would be solid.

DFS has no gtd money past this year. And Charlotte has a big TPE so they don't have to match, though they'd likely prefer to.

You can't combine it, but you can trade salary into it.

so Jrue goes into $40M TPE meaning Charlotte doesn't have to send out any salary at all for the trade to be legal. Of course they would want to, but it wouldn't be needed.

But a lot simpler to save the TPE and just use any two of Williams/Allen/DFS as salary matching. Allen if Portland wants a good player back. The other two if they just want to clear cap space to raise and extend Deni next summer.

What you can't do is combine the TPE and another salary to take a player making $41M+.

When I pulled DFS contract, it shows 2 seasons guaranteed, and 28-29 as a Player Option.

I think the Allen, O'Neil, Grant trade fits squarely into thr salary dump to retain Deni. It might be a good trade deadline deal if the Blazers cant find a clear upgrade.
