Small deal: DaRon Holmes for Jericho Sims

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Sun Jul 26, 2026 11:27 pm

DEN trades: DaRon Holmes
MIL trades: Jericho Sims

Denver needs to find just about every avenue they can to replace players on their roster with cheaper, playable players so they can retain Watson and Jones. Here, they swap DaRon Holmes who hasn't gotten much opportunity because of injury for an older Jericho Sims who makes 560k less. Sims should be fine as a third string center. Milwaukee gets the younger player who might be more of a 4/5 than a 5, they can see if he fits with their young pieces and - if he doesn't - who cares? But Sims certainly isn't in the future plans and they have a ton of centers right now.

Bucks are in play to acquire Watson themselves so they arent going to be interested in helping Denver out. Holmes had an Achilles injury and doesn’t look like an NBA player, not somebody you trade for. He’s definitely not 5 btw. Also I’d play Sims at the 4 before I would Holmes. The Bucks should be trading Turner to open up the spot for Ware, Sims & Markovic as back ups. Who cares? The Bucks aren’t operating a charity.

I'd be all over this as the Bucks. We know what Sims is while Holmes has interesting potential I wouldn't think Denver does it for the tiny savings.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Perhaps worth noting that if Denver replaces Holmes with a rookie minimum it brings them under the second apron (until they resign Watson). So they may just see if someone takes Holmes for free and try to sign a rookie.
