Hypothetical: Kawhi trade canceled, what does TOR do?

Let's say the Kawhi trade gets canceled. What does Toronto do?

Reminder a/b the details of the trade:

Gradey Dick
Brandon Ingram
First-round picks in 2031 and 2033
Second-round picks in 2030 and 2033
First-round pick swap in 2027

for

Kawhi Leonard

Ingram sent out in a trade :

To NO for Zion?
To Nets for MJP?
To ORL for Bane?
To POR for Jrue?

I think thats at least the easy possibilities

Why for Kings? they've got a Zach Lavine problem at least according to youtube and the vibe I've been getting

Why for Raptors? They've already tried trading Ingram/Dick got to be some friction with in the team

• Raptors recieve, Zach Lavine
• Kings recieve, Brandon Ingram and Gradey Dick ...

Both teams move on from players who they've tried trading for and this works on spotrac straight up ... I'll let y'all decide on draft capital...

But makes sense for both teams and all parties IMO.

I don't think the Pelicans trade for Ingram back, don't think the Nets trade MPJ for him without compensation, don't think he fits with Orlando because he isn't as good of a shooter as Bane and is another somewhat ball-dominant player. Portland is kind of interesting?

I feel like Sabonis maybe makes more sense, but I kind of like this, too.

I think they probably renegotiate a trade even if Kawhi can't play, just with less draft picks.

If Kawhi's just suspended for a bit then the trade probably goes through with less picks.

If the trade's called off then Toronto probably just stands pat had hopes for better health in the playoffs (and perhaps salary-dumps Dick).

Kawhi will probably get a slap on the wrist, at the worst. I think the trade still goes through.

Toronto will need to maintain the current deal structure as GM's now know what is on the plate. That limits the good values out there.

Kawhi will probably get a 30-game suspension and will then extend with the Clippers for a 4/$120M declining deal (35/32/29/23).

If Kawhi knowingly took more money and circumvented the cap, it seems like he will be severely suspended. Obviously the Clippers will get a serious fine and other penalties like losing picks, etc.

It doesn’t seem like Toronto should be punished, so maybe Silver goes to them for their preferred remedy since they traded for an asset they are not getting in its full capacity. If it’s a huge suspension, Toronto probably gets the option to rescind the trade. Regardless of how awkward it is getting their traded players back, I’d expect them to rescind and start over.

I agree he would get a big suspension. I also think he would lose his Bird rights and have his contract terminated. So he doesn’t get that big deal.

How much sense to Trey Murphy make for Toronto? I wouldn't go crazy with a Bane type of deal but I think he fits really well in Toronto

Players union would have a fit. Never going to happen and if by some miracle it does, it happens in mid 2027 after lengthy appeals.
