DEN/SAS/UTA - Murray/Markannen/Fox

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Sun Aug 2, 2026 6:07 pm

Denver trades
Jamal Murray
Christian Braun

Denver gets
De'Aaron Fox
Keldon Johnson
2031 best of SAS and SAC 1sts

Why for Denver? They change things up going for Fox who will be in the best possible position in Denver based on his history with passing big Sabonis, by moving Braun they clear 23-25 mil the next few years (and 4 mil this year) in return for taking Fox's 61 on the last year. They get a great pick with Sac's history and trade asset.

San Antonio trades
De'Aaron Fox
Keldon Johnson
2031 best of SAS and SAC 1sts

San Antonio gets
Lauri Markkanen
Christian Braun

Why for San Antonio? They trade Fox to clear up the Harper starting spot for a position of need PF, and Braun could also be a big piece for them.

Utah trades
Lauri Markannen

Utah gets
Jamal Murray

Why for Utah? They're trying to win next year and Markannen for Murray is the perfect fit for them.

Yah, just take Utah out. Murray is really fun but we need what Lauri does much more.

Makes no sense for Utah and value is not there for us.

I think the Spurs owe significant value here.

I dont see it for Denver, they give up on CB too fast, after only one bad season where he was injured, to get worse contract in return when you take into account that Jokic will sign biggest contract next year and you still have Fox on that huge contract...Denver can still do their trades before deadline to fix money situation, and until then hope that CB is back and playing good basketball

I agree. Murray is better than Fox, and people say he's overpaid. if Murray and Braun are overpaid, than Fox is OVERPAID.

Imagine having to give that guy 60 million for one year one day.

This can be decomposed into a couple sequential 2-team trades:

Trade 1:
Nuggets get
  • De'Aaron Fox
  • Keldon Johnson
  • 2031 best of SAS and SAC 1sts
Spurs get
  • Jamal Murray
  • Christian Braun
Verdict: Spurs are adding almost 47 million in salary and fast forward their future salary issues to years 2 and 3 as opposed to year 4 (with Fox's current contract), which could be catastrophic. The high upside pick adds insult to injury. Non starter.

Trade 2:
Spurs get
  • Lauri Markkanen
Jazz get
  • Jamal Murray
Verdict: Markkanen is a bit more valuable than Jamal Murray for the teams involved, especially because his contract runs 1 year shorter (3 vs 4). If anything, the pick should be going to the Jazz.

Overall assessment: Pass for Spurs and Jazz, probably for the Nuggets as well since it hurts them on the court though it helps them in terms of payroll and assets.

Pass for Utah. We got one guard who can get buckets and doesn’t play good defense. Don’t need a second.
