Lavine to Mavs, Gafford to LAC: Mavs/KIngs/Clippers/Jazz

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Tue Aug 4, 2026 1:52 pm

Ill offer this idea for:
-Mavs to add Lavine to help provide more scoring support around Flagg and Kyrie
-KIngs significankly save money and get a pick out of dealing LaVine
-Clippers get a starting 5 since dealing Zubac
-Jazz add more depth at the 3/4 with TPE and excess 2nds.

To Dallas (Trade Gafford, Thompson, Martin)
-Zach Lavine (1 year, $48.9 million)
-2027 Denver 2nd round pick via Utah

To Sacramento (Trade LaVine)
-Klay Thompson (1 year, $17.4 million) - Buyout?
-Caleb Martin (1 year, $10.1 million plus PO)
-$10.4 million TPE from LAC (Portion of $15 million Walker Kessler TPE)
-2028 Cleveland 2nd round pick via Utah

To Los Angeles (Trade Derrick Jones Jr.)
-Daniel Gafford (3 years, $54.4 million)

To Utah (Trade TPE, 2 2nds)
-Derrick Jones Jr. (1 year, $10.4 million)

Why?
-Dallas gets a starting SG in LaVine who can provide further scoring as Mavs clear up glut of 5s and money off books for 2027-28 and beyond

Irving/Sasser
LaVine/Christie/De Larrea
Flagg/Marshall/FA?
Washington/Rischaler/Biberovic
Lively/Aldama/Johnson Jr./Cisse

-Sacramento cuts salary by $21.5 million. They could look to keep Klay or buy him out

Acuff/FA?/Sharpe
Monk/Thompson/Plowden
Hunter/Clifford/Martin
MurrayKaraban/Cardwell
Sabonis/Raynaud/Achiwura

-The Clippers land more depth at the 5 in Gafford who replace Zubac

Garland/Wagler/Dunn
Mathurin?/Sanders/Christie
Ingram/Miller/Dick
Hachimura/Lopez/Jackson
Gafford/Miller/Broome

-The Jazz add more depth in Jones who can play the 4 off bench

Peterson/Collier/FA?
George/Williams/Konchar
Bailey/Sensaubaugh/Okogie
MArkannen/Jones Jr./Filipowski
JAckson/Nurkic/Bamba

What would be your plan for Dallas to backfill center? Because Lively can't be counted on and likely won't start the season, Cisse is raw, and there are no other centers on the roster at all. Dallas had to play with no center for long stretches last year and it went predictably terrible.

No point in adding LaVine if you just open up a bigger hole.

swap caleb martin with an expiring contract and I would consider it as a kings fan, that 2nd round pick isn't worth taking on an additional 10 million in salary next year when we could just let lavine expire and buy a 2nd round pick for 3 million, seems the cheaper route to aquire a 2nd.

I think the other thread where it was essentially PJ/Caleb/Klay for Lavine just makes more sense. Doesnt create a big hole at the 5 for Dallas

Well until LIvely is fully healthy, they still have Aldama, Johnson Jr. and Cisse. The latter 2 are raw and Aladama is more a 4 than a 5. Ideal, no but they still have depth.

I just assumed Washington was more valuable or Mavs would prefer to retain him more than Gafford.

I’d rather have PJ than Gafford. I just don’t know if I believe in Morez/Aldama combining as 25+ minutes of center play every single night. And adding 10+ minutes to that in games Lively misses.. I’d rather that just be some smaller ball minutes where we see how it works..

it puts Dallas over the tax with only 14 players.. Which is an easy enough problem to solve at deadline - but makes it tough to go find a reliable 20+ minute center

Like Jay, I would also rather have PJ than Gafford so good with it on the Mavs side.

If LAC were willing to deal with DJJ for Gaff, I would think about just cutting the other teams out and doing that simple swap instead. The TPE can be useful too. Or DJJ to a 3rd team (like LAL) for draft compensation.

Could spin it into something like..

DJJ to LAL
Gafford to LAC
Brolo+Hardy to Dallas

Where you buy Hardy out and hope Brolo has some minutes in him? Assuming there’s value coming from the Lakers..

I think cutting Utah helps a bit here. DJJ is a really nice player but we don't have a ton of minutes available at the 3/4 between Lauri, JJJ, ans Ace.

If Dallas would be willing to trade that for LaVine -> the Kings would cut out the Jazz and Clippers out of the deal.

I think Sac keeps LAC and cuts out Utah. Murray/DJJ/Hunter is a nice enough wing trio if Sabonis is back healthy. Maxime is there behind Sabonis.

There’s Cardwell/Precious/etc..

The thinking is DJJ would get a greater role/minutes in Utah than Sacramento given the developing assets Kings have at the 3/4 spots.

Whats the draft compensation moving around gonna look like? Im guessing 2 SRPs from Lakers (which is the max they can send out without touching a FRP swap). LAL would be more than happy to do this (possibly swap in Knecht due to upside instead of Hardy if they can save on sending out some draft capital), Clips might feel like theyre giving up too much (DJJ is solid on a great contract), unless theyre the ones getting the 2 SRPs, but they can use some players to come back their way to help salary considerations for the other squads to ensure more draft capital (preferably SF/PF). DAL is here mostly getting future salary relief and BroLo can fill in 10-15 competent bench C mins a night without much issue. Follow up move for DAL is moving Klay somewhere and let Knecht fill in the backup SG/SF slot and see if he's got any potential left to tap.

Lakers
C - Kessler, Vando, Looney
PF- DJJ, Mamu, Baba
SF- Grimes, Zlaire, Thierro, Carr
SG- AR15, Thybulle, Hardy
PG- Luka, Sexton

Clippers
C - Gafford, Yanic, IJax
PF- Rui, ???
SF- Ingram, Sanders
SG- Mathurin, Miller, Dick
PG- Garland, Wagler, Dunn

Mavericks
C - Lively, BroLo, Aldama, Cisse
PF- PJ, Risacher, Morez
SF- Cooper, PJ
SG- Christie, Klay, Knecht
PG- Kyrie, Sasser, de Larrea

Dallas isn’t going to value getting off of Gafford’s contract. He’s a fairly paid rotation center.

I have no idea what the value would look like, but I wouldn’t want to trade Gafford for Brolo and two seconds. So if that’s where it is, then I think Dallas just keeps the warm body.

DJJ was on a great contract, but now is just an expiring. Still value and a really good player, but the contract value is minimized now.

No thanks to any LAL variation for thsi Mavs fan. Hardy is not an NBA caliber player and Dallas should not take on junk while helping the Lakers

Can Lakers fan just leave everyone alone, instead of always stealing value here or there. IMO, no one is interested in your expiring players (LaRavia, Hardy, Knecht) and bad contract (Vanderbilt). Stop saying anything good about them, if this is the truth, why don't keep them in Lakers uniform. Stop saying about Knecht's potential, if he can't even perform well under Luka/Reave's gravity. Your available seconds are of nearly NO real values. The only asset is the future first swot and that alone is not enough.

I dont see that at all. He won't play ahead of Lauri/JJJ/Ace, I assume JJJ plays about 12 minutes at center, but Ace probably plays all at small forward this year and Lauri splits time between the 3/4, so at most there are about 12 minutes a game in our rotation for DJJ.

With the shooting of JJJ and Lauri as your bigs, no reason Jones can't play the 2 -- he can absolutely defend it and the offense isn't at risk of no spacing. I think minutes wouldn't be hard to come by.

Not saying they should trade for him, just I think I could get him 25 mpg without any concerns at all.

I assumed he'd get around 16-18 mpg off the bench in Utah given his versatility The Kings have more developing assets off the bench behind Hunter and Murray.
