Ideally I wanted his at $20M per but expected $25M. Very glad they stayed under that.

I like this a lot, good deal for both sides.

On the plus side for them, it does at least give them an interesting lineup:
Booker/Allen/Brooks/Bridges/Maluach
I think that can be a fun team. Certainly not an upper-tier team.

Allen is a Hornet now, insert Green instead, and it becomes less fun, unfortunately.

This is exactly the way I feel.
- Very happy with the extentions and the Kennard signing.
- Bridges trade was a huge misuse of an unprotected pick.
I don't even mind doing a high cost - lower return type if trade if the fit is right, but Bridges brings much of what the Suns already have without addressing any of their major weaknesses.
Providing valuable basketball insights with the grace and the poise of a young Burt Bacharach.

Another really nice move for Phoenix.
The one bad one sings louder than all the rest imo, but yeah. This is nice.

Re: [Shams] Brooks extends in Phoenix, 73/3
Players with very similar AAV in 26/27 - Dyson Daniels, Josh Giddey, Fred VanVleet, De'Andre Hunter, Jonathan Kuminga, Keegan Murray, Jabari Smith Jr., Naz Reid, Isaiah Hartenstein
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

This makes it feel about right, maybe a little high? He’s definitely better than some of those guys, but worse/lower upside than others

Seems about right, he is a guy you like to have on a bargain deal, but feels ok with a deal like this. If he can just tweak his shot diet a tad more he could outplay the deal.

CBA is a problem, but Brooks contract being a bit over 20M for a starter with the current expected growth isn't a high number all things taken into account.
Basically there is a hard cap which is why guys who would get the auto-max are not getting it. Duren would be getting a max for sure if not for this apron era.

Everybody always complained about the auto max 2nd contract, and those contracts were universally considered some of the worst in basketball.
This stops that. Again, a good thing for team management. If Duren was a no doubt about it guy, he would have gotten paid already. But he's not and never was, AS berth or not.
I know some guys just root for players, but most of us are rooting for the team on the front of the jersey. If player x takes up half the cap and isn't a superstar, it keeps my team from being good.

The cap is what makes all of this artificial. If there was no salary cap and no max contracts, duren would get 45 and wemby would get 80.
the cba basically puts handcuffs on the owners/gms so they can't do what the dodgers are doing in baseball.

From who? And why would Wemby only get 80 in this world?

If there were no cap/rules, Wemby could be making (you pick a number, I don't really care, it's a big one for sure), Duren who is a good starting center, all-star, would likely be getting well over the current day max. That's how this whole thing works.
Yeah, guys like Lavine getting a max have been problematic to teams/GM's, but under previous rules, Trae being a max player would be just fine, now he is only getting it because he is playing for the guy who drafted him and thinks he is Steph Curry.
If the 2nd apron was not prohibitive, Duren would be paid and would be very tradable during the season.
