GM James Strikes Again: NOP | Bucks | 76ers

Post#1 » by Wolveswin » Thu Aug 6, 2026 6:15 am

James has Philly go all-in for a even better roster…

To NOP: Embiid/VJ/2029 76ers FRP (with LAC swap rights)/2033 76ers FRP
(For: Murphy/Murray)
Why: take on Embiid but get youth/picks for Murphy.

To Bucks: Murray/Philon Jr (76ers 2026 FRP)/2027 76ers FRP/2028 76ers FRP Swap
(For: Turner/Rollins (or Jaquez Jr, 76ers choose)
Why: Bucks swap vet C for vet G while getting youth/pick for win now depth 76ers covet.

To 76ers: Turner/Murphy/Rollins/@15M TPE
(For: Embiid/VJ/Philon Jr/Picks)

Even better roster for James:
Turner/James/Bona
James/Wade
Murphy/Brown
Brown/Simons/Rollins
Maxey/Rollins
Plus a 15M’ish TPE for upgrade.

Trading Embiid, Edgecombe and every single first round pick for zero even near All Star players? Did I read that right?

Because if so...oof. Even LeGM wouldn't do that.

Like, I wouldn't even trade VJ alone for Turner and Murphy.

Being honest, this is unworkably terrible for Philadelphia.

Agree wouldn’t do this if I was Philly. Big overpay to New Orleans. Bucks don’t want to trade Rollins.

Makes some sense if Edgecombe is removed and it's Embiid + picks for Turner + Herb/Murray

I mean we can all agree Embiid is negative salary albatross right? Wouldn’t it take at least two FRPs to make him not negative (with one of 3x FRP in trade scenario being very late 2027 FRP).

If VJ has similar value to Murphy, I can see Pels getting one less FRP. I don’t think VJ does have the same value as Murphy, but I can see the argument.

Turner is neutral value at worst, probably some positive value. And Rollins is positive value to real positive value on that 4M value deal.

So the math pencils out:

VJ= Murphy
Embiid+2x FRPs= neutral salary filler
Rollins/Turner= FRP + Philon Jr.

Where does math go wrong?

Reported LeGM moves:
- Wiggins+Bennett+FRP for Love
- Ingram+Lonzo+Hart+FRPs for Davis
- KCP+Kuzma+Harrell for Westbrook
- Westbrook+FRPs for Turner and Hield (didn't go ahead)
- DLo+FRPs for Kyrie (didn't go ahead)

Seems like he knows what he's doing 80% of the time.
OP does not look like a LeBron trade.

Where the currently constructed Sixers are willing to staple 2 1sts to liquidate Embiid. It's antithetical to attach that context to a win-now trade.

If they aren’t willing, then no team would be willing to take Embiid. It’s the state of reality for him on that contract.

Fact checking even your first one you are forgetting a FFRP that was in the deal. At time of trade that was current #1 overall, previous years #1 overall, FFRP for Kevin Love.

With hindsight it paid off for GM James, but unprecedented at time to get two #1 overall (including one just drafted) and FFRP for a win-now player. GM James made Cavs go all-in big time.

.....right.....which is one of the many reasons he's not going to move. Asking the Sixers to use picks/VJ to not get meaningfully better is just as unreasonable as asking a tanking team to take Embiid without compensation.

Fact checking your second one, that was 2x recent #2 overalls in Ingram/Ball, #4 overall in about to happen draft, Hart, 2x FFRPs (one with an option). GM James had Lakers go all-in for sure, probably biggest blockbuster going at that time.

I think the difference of Davis GM James trade (and Kevin Love version) vs OP is GM James going all-in for one player and not needing to use an albatross Embiid contract to accomplish. I don’t think a singular player exists that fits that bill from a team willing to take on Embiid contract too.

LBJ didnt go there for them to sell off talent for salary
I could see them flipping VJ for some older vet "star" because thats a LeBron thing to do but not sure who it would be

Great feedback if your take is 76ers as organization wouldn’t attach the at least 2x FRPs required to neutralize Embiid contract. Fair take and input.

But the ‘not get meaningful better’ part I don’t agree with.

Turner replaces a lot of Embiid production. Turner is probably healthier and cost much less cap commitment for sure.

Rollins replaces VJ production very well. Bucks fans might argue Rollins is better. But I think similar players both with upside (VJ obviously more upside) but current production are indeed similar.

How does Murphy not make 76ers way better? Meaningful better? Not sure I get that part of your take. Murphy is main production prize of OP. Turner and Rollins are included so 76ers don’t take any step back in production to get Murphy.

Premise of Lebron being the GM is so flawed. And is only included to justify an absolutely horrible trade for Philly. I know you only love huge unrealistic deals, but the idea of assigning massive negative value to Embiid to justify giving up value they never should for role players is just a huge miss and Lebron James would never propose this, you did, but you want him to take the blame lol.

Anthony Bennett was already viewed as a bad contract, not a first overall pick in terms of value. At the time his value was far lower than Rissacher who just got traded for a 2nd round pick. Why attempt to paint that otherwise while claiming "Fact checking"? I don't understand why you post OP's when you do this every time someone gives you feedback other than best deal ever. People are allowed to point out the issues wiht your trades. This is the risk all of us who are brave enough to post OP's accept.

Sometimes we just have to say -- big miss by me, on to the next one. Our very best posters do this a lot. They understand no shame in missing.

At first, I didn't notice Edgecomb was in it and was like, ooh an Embiid deal that might actually work for the sixers.

Then I read the first comment and saw you snuck him in by using his two-letter nickname despite using the full last name for every other player in the deal.

As constructed: lmao.

I really hope LeBron still doesn't have this type of pull. He's a role player. But, I wouldn't put it past them.

Three major problems with OP

1) LeBron doesn't have nearly that sort of influence on a team's front office at this point in his career. It's unclear if Philly would even spend a 2nd for Bronny, much less this sort of massive move.

2) Philly values Embiid, likely more (perhaps much more) then the rest of the league. It's very difficult to see them moving multiple 1sts to swap him for just guys (even with the guys being more available).

3) Edgecomb has far higher trade value than Murphy.
