Pistons/Pelicans

Post#1 » by louc1970 » Thu Aug 13, 2026 4:49 pm

Seems as though the Pistons and J. Duren are having trouble reaching a meeting point.
And Pelicans are spinning wheels and going nowhere with the Zion led team.

Pistons send Duren ($38,000,000 S/T), Robinson, Holland
Pelicans send Williamson, Jones, Missi

Pistons get another offensive player in Williamson, a 2-way SF in Jones, and grooming center in Missi
The Williamson experiment will be 1 or 2 years with Cunningham having a secondary player.

Pelicans get a starting center, move Queens to the PF, and build around the newer players - Fears/Queen/Duren.
Waive Robinson to save money.

Don't think this works with Duren's BYC.

edit...

Det takes Jones into steward TPE. Takes Missi into Sasser TPE. And then Duren/Robinson for Zion. So I think it works for DET.

I think the Pistons would just sign Duren for $38 million if he is willing. Have no interest in Zion but replace him with Murphy and we have a deal. May even throw in a first round pick :).

If duren would sign that, he’d already be a piston.

Beyond that, Detroit has no interest in Zion. He’s basically the opposite of the team Detroit is trying to build.

This, on both counts.

The only way Duren is traded is on a 4/171 deal. If you don't want to pay Duren don't offer a trade for him. 41.2 million is what he wants to come to your town and play for your team.

Queen/Duren seems like a poor fit. And our spacing gets even worse (assuming Zion and Ausar share the floor a lot with Missi/Reed
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
