This is DOA.
Portland is not looking to DUMP Jrue for expiring contracts. He IS available for commiserate value, but this is not it.

Poole (an 12-15th type man) making $34M and Hawkins (a g-league level player) making $7M. Neither player helps Portland in the least bit.

But in all seriousness, this is very bad for Portland. They do need shooting, but in order for a player’s shooting ability to matter (and it’s not like these are great shooters anyway) they have to be good enough to get on the court.

It would at least have to be someone like Bey to convince Portland this helps with the roster balance. Really what I would want is more like Herb for Holiday with whatever filler is necessary but that might not be something NOP is interested in.

Jrue becomes a veteran leader on a team with a lot of talent. If thr Pels are good with starting him at the 2, and moving Trey Murphy to the 3, that's a solid starting group with Fears. Scoot provides a solid 3rd guard off the bench.

Well, it does do SOMETHING...it makes them demonstrably worse.

And a team with a new owner in Dundon and that is prioritizing win-now, is not going to be looking to get demonstrably worse.

See. That makes more sense for Portland. Not sure the Nawlins side.

Not hating, but their roster is a mess. So is Portland's. Neither team seems to have any real long-term vision. Unless the vision is Ja/Zion. And maybe that pans out. Be nice as a Blazers fan and have no ill will towards Nawlins.

I think I'm just in a mindset now where draft capital is being overrated versus having an actual plan. It makes sense as a GM to sales pitch an owner on the value of players and how picks will fix whatever problems in the future, but it seems like that never happens.

I get Blazers fans not wanting to salary dump Jrue, but I would not be so quick to dismiss getting out of Jrue's second year for free. Maybe you wait until training camp to see how much Dame has left in the tank, but Jrue, Dame, Morant, Scoot, and Sharpe all need minutes. Someone gets to start. Someone doesn't. There's an injury risk. This is Scoot's last season on a rookie deal.

Moving Jrue is complicated. It puts more pressure on Dame, Ja and Sharp for perimeter defense.

Also, the contract that Micah Nori signed forces him to focus on winning now, not salary dumps. Any trade would ideally add wins this season, IMHO.
