Minny-Chi, need 3rd team

Post#1 » by pipfan » Sun Aug 23, 2026 9:00 am

Anyone interested in absorbing Dillingham and a 2nd?

He's a recent #8 who has a bit of talent, but he's just too small. I don't think any team should pick up his 2027/28 option-probably not worth it but he's very quick and has some pop in his game

If someone is welcome to the idea, this deal might work

Chi sends JSmith to Minny and Dillingham/2nd to a 3rd team
Chi gets JGreen and an unprotected pick swap with Wolves for 2032

Minny trades JGreen and 2032 swap
Minny gets JGreen

Third team makes it possible

Minny pays a very future pick swap to save a lot of $ (5 million in salary and a lot more in tax)

Chi needs a SG and adds a future valuable pick swap. This is a development year for the Bulls. I like JSmith a lot, but we can live without him and I'm not sure of resigning him

A third team is unnecessary as the deal works with just Green and Smith. Talking about Dillingham here unnecessarily muddies the waters. If he's unwanted in Chicago then deal with that separately.

The question then is simply whether the exchange of these two players is worth the swap from Minny's perspective. Probably, but personally I'd rather see if Memphis would bite on the same offer for Hendricks.

I think JSmith is much more valuable than Hendricks-a perfect fit w/ their starting lineup and still young

I thought the difference between Smith and JGreen's salaries it too great for a straight swap-if not, yes-much better to do it easier

I would not pay an unprotected swap for an expiring bench big.

If Minn had more draft capital, I like the target. But just not worth it with what Minn has imo.

Hendricks is at least an RFA, though he ain’t worth a distant swap either..

You meant wouldn’t right ?

2032 is too far away that there’s a chance it’s top 5 however small it is.

Hah. I’ve been gone too long. Yeah.

Definitely, would not pay an unprotected swap for an expiring bench big.

Was going to offer Dallas a bunch of bench pieces otherwise.

The right bench piece on a true contender, locked in for a few season could be possible though. But not sure if there’s such an option for Knicks / Spurs / OKC.

Possibly their 2030/2031 swap at the latest.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Wolves take a flyer on Hendricks, but there is no way he's worth adding a pick swap and probably isn't even worth Green straight up.

I don't think I'd add a pick swap for Smith either, but if the Bulls were interested in Smith for Green I'd do that.

Na, it’s a terrible idea for Minnesota even though Green is just a meh energy wing.

I don’t think Dallas has a bad enough PF to make those deals work. We saw some Green+TSJ+swap(s) for PJ deals earlier in the offseason, but just don’t see it realistically.

If Dallas wasn’t so asset poor, a Green for Caleb+second(s) type deal would seem to make sense to give Minn a more physical bench piece while freeing them up to use 1 - the tax MLE or 2 - more of the Conley TPE on an actual four.

This is where I fall too. If there was more cost control involved its worth a lot more thought. But an expiring UFA i can't see the wolves using their limited capital on.

Good point about Smith being expiring-what kind of protection would be fair for the swap?

I think JSmith starts at the 4 for the Wolves in this deal-great fit since he's a good 3 point shooter and can also finish around the rim, plays solid D and rebounds decently

That might be true from Minn POV, but the flip is also true for Memphis. We would have no real interest in Green as a player, and we would want compensation for the 7m difference in salary. Now maybe we would do the Hendricks/Murray for Green if we want to keep more tradeable salary alive instead of just cutting Murray, but with our TPEs I really don't think that extra tradeable salary is all that important or valuable.

Now if a 3rd team actually would offer assets for Green then a deal could easily be found here.

I think Ayo/Ant/McDaniels is much better starting than Ant/McDaniels/Smith. Ayo is just a better player and with Rudy, the small ball should work.

He’d still play a ton of minutes and would be worth paying for. But they just don’t have the assets to pay.

If I were to try, I’d say top 5 protected? Still don’t love the idea for Minnesota though honestly. By then, who knows what the lottery rules will look like though.

Small underweight guards got phased out. These types don't do much for you. Only the smaller beefier guys can hold up with the pace and physicality being how it is. Dillingham isn't worth a roster spot, the 2nd doesn't do much - whole different story there for that. The NIL money made the 2nd round a dump.
