If Atlanta traded Josh Childress for Toronto's Anthony Parker, who gets the better deal? What would need to be added in terms of (protected) picks to even things out, if at all?

It really depends; Childress has more value IMO, and he's also eight years younger. Atlanta is desperate for a three point threat, but I'd be surprised if they made the deal one for one...unless they fear losing Childress this off-season. Toronto lacks second rounders this year and next, and I doubt that they would throw a first to get a guy going into restricted free agency.

If Atlanta wanted to do this, both for financial reasons and to get a consistent outside shooter, my guess is that Toronto would do it in a second.

Anthony is better though imo, but has less value. Childress hasn't improved as much as I thought he would.

one is proven and has probably reached his peak, one might still have potential, so it all depends what you like

If the Raptors core of Bosh + Bargnani + Ford's average age wasnt under 25, I'd take Childress, but for the time being I'll go with Parker because he's a good guy to have in the locker room

I prefer Childress as a player, but Parker is still pretty good. That said, let's not forget that Childress is a (restricted) FA this off-season, and his contract may increase to the point where he's less of a bargain. That cost uncertainty decreases his trade value.

I would do this in a second if I am Toronto. Parker is a great glue guy for a team looking for vetern leadership and is a poormans Battier type that will do the hustle stuff. Parker is a smart player who makes smart shots and looks to push the ball.

With that being said Childress is a good young player on a bad team to use him. He's a good rebounding 2/3 who has some playmaking ability and is a good defender when he wants to be. Kinda reminds me of a young Jalen Rose. I don't think Atlanta is too intrested in Parker at this point unless Calderon, Bosh or Bargnani are going over and that would mean Josh Smith + would be heading to Toronto if we traded Bosh.

Parker isn't a poormans Battier, they are quite comperable. The big difference though is age.

Yeah, I have to admit that it came as a surprise that Atlanta would be interested in Childress for Parker, but I can understand it; they are looking like a playoff squad, but are in serious need of a 6th man that can shoot from the outside. It's quite possible also that ownership might not be willing to pay MLE money to a guy that will likely remain on the bench for the foreseeable future.

Parker would be a short-term fix in Atlanta, but if he can aid a run to the playoffs and make re-signing Smith a little easier, I can understand the motivation on the part of the Hawks.

I don't however think he's going to get a ridiculus contract. I just think teams have stopped handing those out to all but star players.

hell yes they would. They'd give a rd 1 too if Atl sent back a rd 2. You really gotta Fxxx the Dog to lose a RFA you want to keep

Not sure the Raps would throw in that 1st rounder, BC likes having assets to play around with. Don't think this is that fantastic of a deal that he should give up that pick in.

What if it was lotto-protected?

Toronto wouldn't throw in a first to get Childress.

Childress can probably be had this off-season for the MLE. Although there is a chance Atlanta might match, the MLE this year is close to 7 million a year. Thats pretty steep for a guy to bring off the bench.

I think Toronto would be getting a great deal, but Atlanta benefits from a more intangible perspective. Leadership-wise Parker is right up there, he is one of those glue guys that keeps a team together. In addition his 3pt shooting, would really give Atlanta a solid guy off the bench.

Parker I would also say is a better defender than Childress, but not by a lot. Than again Childress is younger, the risky thing about dealing Childress is he could develop into a 18-6-3 player on another team when he is more of a focal point on the offense side.

The deal would really come down to what Atlanta thinks their chances of keeping Childress would be and at what price.
