Griz/Golden State/New Jersey Trade:

Post#1 » by Jay22 » Thu Jan 3, 2008 3:52 pm

Once again, griz fan here looking to improve the team and fan base. Just looking for some feedback here on this trade which I think will be beneficial to each party involved. Check it out.

MEM Recieves:
Vince Carter
Malik Allen

New Jersey Recieves:
Hakim Warrick
Damon Stoudamire

New Jersey Recieves:
Mike Miller
Mikael Pietrus
Patrick O' Bryant
GS 1st Round Pick

...... This trade works, and I think it would give each team involved what they need. GS has been wanting Hak for a while, and they also need a backup for BD since Troy went down. Plus Pietrus leaving after this year anyway. New Jersey fans are slick feed up with Vince and they need a change. Mike Miller would be an excellent asset due to his 3 point shooting and play-making ability and they also recieve a draft pick and expiring contract, not a bad drop off. MEMPHIS, we need butts in the stands and Vince would bring that to our city. Plus I believe he Rudy and Pau would play great together and just allow Mike to run the show. Let me get some feedback.

Even if NJ did receive GS' package (as you've noted), we still wouldn't do it. Not that Miller or anyone else doesn't have value; we're trying to build up, though, not tear down.

Grizzlies aren't trading for Vince's contract and still have Cardinal/Swift on the roster.

Miller/Swift might work..but even then...Vince makes a lot of dough.

why are the Warriors giving up a 1st round pick, especially when they are giving up two EC's and taking on the extra money in Damon's deal...

Warriors decline...

It's a no from GS too. Ellis is the backup PG in Golden State, so what the Dubs need is a 3rd string PG. The $4.65 million owed to Stoudamire next year is a HUGE negative for Golden State, as there's going to be a cap crunch next year with all the FAs that need to be re-signed. On top of that, Pietrus, POB, & a 1st rounder is too steep of a price for the Dubs to give up for Warrick and Stoudamire (a plus this year but a bg negative next year.

Warrick to the Dubs definitely has some merit, but the inclusion of VC in this trade just complicates things. I could see a 3-team trade involving the Dubs and the Grizz based around (from the Dubs POV) Pietrus + POB for Warrick + crappy PG with an expiring contract, but I'm not sure how it would work. To start, what would Memphis want from the Warriors roster for Warrick (within reason)?

I'd want Belinelli. But you did say within reason. :-)

Outside of that...it would take a third team to provide the Grizz something they need if Warrick were to end up in GS.

I'd think that Beli could definitely be had, but the Grizz would have to offer something else with Warrick to make it work, a younger player with upside (you know, a Brian Cardinal type  ).

Kind of figured that there was nothing on the Dubs within reason, assuming Beli's not going anywhere. So then, what are the Grizz looking for? Or better yet, do they even know which direction they're going? Are they building around Pau, or are they going to trade him and re-build? Seems like that would be the first question that needs to be answered before any deals are made.

Assuming Pau's staying, what do you want? A young SG or big? Dump a contract? Keep in mind it is a guy who's currently been relegated to the bench in recent weeks.

Don't know the answer to that question either.

Not sure what else GS could use from Memphis besides Lowry/Miller/Warrick.

I'd do Miller/Warrick for Harrington/Belinelli but not sure if that helps GS now or how much it helps Memphis in the long run.

Al's been solid this year, and the point of getting Warrick would be to have him in addition to Al, not replace him.

Maybe Beli & POB for Warrick & Lowry? Not even sure if I'd do it, as I really do think that Belinelli will be a good player for a long time, but I'm starting to like Lowry more and more every time I see him.

O'Bryant has zero value to the Grizzlies in this trade. We're not moving a lot of salary (Warrick/Lowry) so his expiring does little to help us.

We'd have to get a pick in that deal.

Fair enough. Given the need for young talent on cheap contracts in the Dubs immediate future, I'm not sure how amiable Mulson would be to doing a Beli + a 1st for Warrick/Lowry. I'm thinking a deal would have to be the basic deal mentioned earlier from the Dubs point of view Pietrus + POB for Warrick with a 3rd team involved. So then the question goes back to what exactly is Memphis looking to get in return for a Warrick deal?
