I think Denver would have to do this. Dampier's contract is nasty, but Devin Harris would be an ideal fit with Iverson.

Mavs become

Terry/Barea
Jones/Hassell/Ager/Wafer
Howard/george/Najera
Dirk/Bass/JuHoward
Camby/Diop/Faz

I like that b/c I do not like this team having Terry and Harris together on the court. Camby is good talent for Harris.

Denver says no thanks. They need more than that for Camby. Plus they are moving two players in their front court? Front court depth is something they need to keep.

Edit: And actually, considering Dampier's contract, Denver would need a lot more to convince them to even consider this. They aren't looking to add anymore crappy contracts.

Honestly if we were to go after Harris, I'd rather trade AI for him than Camby. A core of Melo/Nene/Harris is good enough to make some noise in the playoffs now, and sets us up pretty well for the future.

Either way, I'd still do this, it just leaves us a little short handed up front until Hunter gets back.

1) Too bad Terry & AI cannot co-exist on the same team. That would look awful!
2) Too bad the only reason why this thread was started was for Camby
3) Too bad we aren't trading Harris anyways. :D

Bingo.

I was just curious to see if Denver fans would like the offer. They acquire a young guard that's very talented. Dallas obviously acquire Marcus Camby who they could use very badly.

huh?

he's like 5'11 and 140lbs, and can't shoot consistently outside 15 feet. at least anthony carter isn't getting posted up by every shooting guard he faces....harris/iverson would, and it would be devastation defensively. and harris wouldn't do anything to spread the court for iverson/melo, and he's not much of a true pg either (alley-oop passes to melo and whatnot).

no thanks to this trade.

Huh?

Who are you talking about?

The 6'3" 180 lbs Harris? He has developed a shot and is great defensivley.

He has developed a shot and is great defensivley.

his perimeter shot is still sketchy.
and he's good defensively because he flops and is a pest, not because he can guard kobe bryant, tracy mcgrady & manu ginobili to any degree. he simply doesn't have the size (or he would have been somewhat successful guarding baron davis last season).

That shows your ignorance of the entire Mavs organization.

Harris is one of the best at keeping in front of his man causing many pass outs, bad passes, steals (and poke aways for other players to get credited with steals), traveling, double dribbles, palming violations. and yes, charges. Players like Chris Paul, Ellis, and Tony Parker are held as close to scoreless as humanly possible against Harris. The same was true with Baron Davis thus far this year since Terry was guarding Ellis (this year). If you watch the games, when those three score, it is on Terry or whoever the switch is on when we play zone defense. In last year's playoffs, Davis was guarded by Terry and some of our 2 guards, not Harris. Harris guarded Ellis. How did Ellis do? I thought so!

True, Harris can't guard T-Mac and Kobe, etc..but how many PG's can? I thought so.

Anyways, I'm glad you don't like him; that means we can both agree that Harris will stay a Mav!

so doesn't that make him a liability on denver? someone (iverson or harris) has to guard the opposing shooting guard.

which is exactly my point.

Okay, I see your point. You would be in the same position we are with Harris/Terry. Terry is a great scorer and a combo guard like Iverson. But you still have JR Smith, right? Anyways, we have do make due with mostly playing these two at PG (Harris 31, Terry 17) and Terry only about 10-15 at SG.

Kills too much of Denvers interior defense to bring in a weaker version of iverson with no outside shooting to share the backcourt with AI. Along with adding that awful contract, Denver doesnt even consider.

The same is true also.
Which team can stay in front of Devin Harris and Allen Iverson?

But I don't see the Mavs trading Devin, those game without him just suck.

I think Harris is good, but soon to be overpaid. Is he an upgrade over AC? Certainly. But this year Anthony Carter has had a better jumper, better rebounding, similar play making skills, and done a better job at protecting the ball. So does that make it worth the downgrade from Camby and Najera to Dampier? Certainly not. Add to that taking on 2 substantial contracts, and its quite **** for Denver.

But you dont have to stay in front of them. neither can hit the J with enough consistency to make you pay for giving them space and packing the lane.

No, Devin's getting 50% of their 3s recently.
People who try to dare him shoot would pay for it.

Nah. In december he hit 43 percent, but less than one per game. He hasnt hit more than 2 in a game all season. People arent worried about him beating you with the long ball. Same goes for Iverson (although iverson is a more prolific shooter, but he also shoots a lot more of them).

I don't see the Nuggets trading Camby to get a PG. Camby has a great contract in this NBA and they don't need a PG desperately, plus why would you trade a big to Dallas?
