Conclusions:

Sonics: Hughes is injury prone and expensive and his contract does run on more year then Wally's but he would fit their style better for the last two years of hi contract. Gainains a lottery protected pick is not much, particualry against losing the future 2nd round pick (basically they will be picking at 20th or so instead of 31/32.

Cavs: Wally fits their need for another shooter and is a hometown hero, plus his contract is one year shorter and allows for greater cap flexability. The 2nd round draft choice will be high which in some cases is better then a high first round pick (as it is not protected)

I HIGHLY doubt the Sonics who are rebuilding would trade a guy that has just one year left on his contract for an even lesser player with 2 years on his contract.

Moving up from the early 2nd into the mid-late 1st round is not enough for the rebuilding Sonics to take on Hughes contract.
Keeping Wally makes way more sense, because his contract is shorter, his production is better and he's even more reliable then Hughes.

Sonics easily pass on this one.

BTW: Could we please stop trying to send Hughes to Seattle? That one's been beaten to death, as Hughes just isn't the player/contract a rebuilding team like the Sonics would be looking for.

Not true. The rule is that you cannot trade two consecutive FUTURE picks (unless you have one incoming in one of those years from another team).

So once the 2007 draft was OVER, the 2008 pick is up for grabs. (They can currently trade their 2008 and 2010 picks, but not 2008 and 2009 since those are consecutive future picks.)

As of right now, the Cavs can trade their 2008. (Once the 2008 draft is over, they can trade their 2009 pick. And so on.)

Wouldn't call Hughes a cancer, but no one gives up a number one for Wally. Keep Wally and continue the success you are having with him.

The difference is that Seattle isn't nearly as concerned about success right now as Cleveland is.

Out of Hughes and Szczerbiak, the latter provides sooner salary relief. So the Sonics will be more than happy to keep him.

(I agree that the Sonics aren't getting a 1st for Wally, but trying to put them down for losing in a rebuilding year is a bit ridiculous.)

Szczerbiak doesn't play any defense which negates his one year less benefit to the CAVs. The CAVs are a playoff team while the Sonics don't care about the playoffs which is why they are good with Szczerbiak.
