Receives - J.J. Redick, Pat Garrity, Carlos Arroyo, Rights to Fran Vazquez, 2009 first rounder, 2008 2nd rounder

Why? They get two big expirings, two prospects, and a 1st rounder, all of which are useful to a rebuilding team like Minnesota.

Why? Their weak bench gets a huge upgrade with this one. Jaric is a big contract, but is a big, pass-first guard who works well with Keyon Dooling, who prefers scoring. He might work well with Nelson as well, as Nelson is better as a scoring PG. Gomes is a solid SF/PF, and although he has limited potential, can produce right away. Craig Smith is a big, but undersized big man who can score, and would fit well with Foyle. Michael Doleac is another big man who can hit open jumpers.


Well, flame away on this one. I think both teams do well on this deal, but I'm not sure how much T'wolves fans like Craig Smith. If they like him a lot, perhaps he can be switched with Chris Richards, and the Magic 1st is replaced with a 2nd rounder instead.

EDIT: I got rid of Craig Smith in the deal, and switched the 2008 1st to a 2009 1st rounder, and added a 2nd from this year.

I don't see the Wolves trading Craig Smith in a deal like that. Maybe something smaller would work.

Yeah we don't need three big man. I like what we get though. But anyway Min prolably won't accept. But trade can use some work.

Well, I was thinking that Doleac probably won't get much minutes (I used him more as a salary filler), and Gomes would play more SF than PF.

I also thought Jaric was the player we needed the most. He would really fit well in our starting lineup.

I don't understand why the Wolves would do this particular trade, but its a nice idea. Needs a little work, in my opinion.

Hey I will still accept the trade when you look at who we give up. But IDK how T'wolves will feel. I also like Jaric with Orlando. He's a big contract but seems like he would fit well.

Now Orlando gives up too much. If Minny can get expirings for Jaric, they should jump on it immediately, even if it costs them Gomes. Adding Vazquez and a 2nd and a 1st is just too much for Orlando.

I thought Minnesota favored Gomes a lot. I remember some T'wolves fan saying that Gomes is worth around a late 1st.

Gomes being worth a late first is about right. And a late 1st to move Jaric for expirings is about right. Ergo, Gomes+Jaric for expirings is about right. (Use of "expirings" here also includes two year contracts, as Wolves are targeting 2009 cap space). shrink thinks Gomes is too much to pay to move Jaric. I disagree, especially since I don't think the Wolves would sign Gomes this offseason.

I think the most fair is Jaric+Gomes for Redick+(Garrity or Arroyo) or Jaric+Gomes+Doleac for Redick+Garrity+Arroyo. Most of the Jaric to ORL trades have used Battie, this is an interesting twist, but I think I like the Battie versions better for ORL. From MIN I'm indifferent, they're both good.

I have to say that I think the Wolves will re-sign Gomes, since he has the right attitude, and has been very productive in his two years in the league. However, these abilities give him the most trade value of that group to a team that wants to succeed right now, too.

As far as valueing Jaric, I think Jaric has demonstrated he's useful enough to be worth an unproductive 2-year deal. He may have more value on other teams, and there are a lot where he could help.

For me, the question becomes, would I prefer trading Jaric + Gomes for a 2-year and a 1st, or an expiring and no 1st. Since most of our deals come off in two years (and because its not my money), I'd prefer the first, but the value is about the same.

I think the new deal favors MIN too much, and I like deeney's deals. I think some prospect (Reddick or a late 1st or Fran) if we're going to lose Gomes. I also agree with the use of Battie, but if you sub in his contract for Arroyo (who ORL may need, and it saves them $10 mil), then all the late prospects should be in there.

Jaric + Gomes + Doleac for Battie + Reddick + Garrity + late 1st + rights to Fran.
