Clippers fans knew it was inevitable, Cassell is unhappy and he's on the verge of getting moved. Sam is good for 25 minutes a game off the bench. He's been known for being very effective in tutoring young players, especially point guards. He'll likely play one more year and work his way into coaching.

Clippers will likely not want to add any salary beyond this year in a trade for Cassell. The last two trades the Clippers have made included them taking a player in the last year of their contract, don't expect that trend to change much.

Clippers don't have much talent or youth in the back court. Their front court is crippled with injuries. It's your guess which they need or want more, but the Clippers absolutely aren't going to take back another swingman. Clips also desire a 3 point shooter.

Maggette is likely to opt out this summer, Thornton is emerging making Corey very expendable. He'd be a good rental and a solid sign & trade chip.

Orlando and New Orleans are rumored to be looking for depth. Probably not much of a coincidence.

I don't know what we offer, but do we have to throw in extra for his UFO?

Chris Duhon, Viktory Khryapa, and a 2nd round pick

Benefits for Clippers: Get a young healthy point guard, and two expiring contracts. Khryapa could be worth a look as well. Duhon could fit a rebuilding effort if Mags and Brand end up leaving. He'd also have interest as a free-agent and could be a guy who could get you a sign and trade to a contender like the Spurs.


For the Bulls: Cassell becomes their best post player (yes it's that sad) is an imediate upgrade over Duhon, gives them a true leader, second clutch player to Gordon, and replaces Boylan next year

Obviously Boston is the perfect fit for Cassell... he's exactly what they need(as if they need anything) and thats where he'd want to play... just dont know if theres a deal that could happen salary wise...

I'd love to have him as the "savvy veteran" off the bench for GS. Would you consider Sammy for the Trade Exception and a 2nd round pick? We might even bump that up to a heavily protected 1st round pick if the bidding got intense.

lol I was wondering how long it would take fans in LA to learn what fans in Minnesota, Milwaukee, New Jersey, Phoenix, Dallas, and Houston already know. With Cassell you get a good year or two, but as soon as things aren't going his way he gets disgruntled and becomes a big headache. Before you know it your team is trading him for six years of Marko Jaric. Or maybe that was just us.

If all the clips want are expiring contracts then they aren't goign to get much for him. I don't think half a season of Cassell is worth a first round pick. unless it is a very late one.

I would think the Hawks would be interested in a Lue, Wright, Salim Stoudamire, and a 2nd round pick or something like that.

we'd probably jump at whoever offered us a 1st and a player/players who'se contract is expiring or expiring after next season. that will probably determine where sam goes.

I don't see anyone offering a first though. Maybe boston would because of how late their first rounder would be but they simply don't have the expiring contracts to get it done. Is anyone willing to give up expirings plus a first for cassell? Maybe some team would do it if there was heavy protection on the pick.

Yeah, nobody is coughing up a first round pick to rent a 38-year-old PG for 40 games.

I think Orlando might be interesting in acquiring him though. Maybe they'd offer a 2nd round pick plus expiring contracts (Garrity + Evans). Or, rather than a 2nd round pick, maybe they offer Redick plus an expiring for Cassell.

You probably couldn't get a first for Cassell, but if you took on what is considered a less than desirable contract you may be able to get a young player with some promise.

My thoughts are:

Kenny Thomas(who could actually get some burn in LAC while Elton is out)
Quincy Douby(who is a scoring combo guard off the bench type)

see my first post. realistically, the cliippers aren't taking back bad contracts. i'm not so sure cassell would even report to sacramento anyway. for example: cassell to mavs for maurice ager and an expiring or a player coming off books no later than next summer.

Seeing as how the Suns hate draft picks anyways, I would think that they'd be okay with busting out a Diaw/Banks/ATL pick for Tim Thomas/Sam Cassell trade......
