This is a variation on a trade proposed on the Bucks board by a Bulls fan.


Bulls trade: Joe Smith, Andres Nocioni, Tyrus Thomas, 1st round pick
Bulls get: Pau Gasol

Milwaukee trades: Michael Redd, Dan Gadzuric
Milwaukee receives: Mike Miller, Andres Nocioni, Joe Smith

Memphis trades: Pau Gasol, Mike Miller
Memphis gets: Michael Redd, Tyrus Thomas, Dan Gadzuric, Bulls 1st round pick


Bulls get their man. Personally, I feel they give up a lot, but since this part was proposed by a Bulls fan I didn't change it.

Bucks trade their best player and might not get equal value, but get rid of Gadzuric's contract (damn, hate to say that). I'd love to see Yi share the PF spot with Joe Smith for the next year and a half.

Memphis gets an excellent scorer, a young talent and a 1st rounder. Gadzuric has a bad contract he will never justify, but could be a useful backup on a run 'n gun team.

Take the pick out from the Bulls and have the Bucks give up theirs. They trade Redd with an awful contract and get 3 more-than-serviceable players back.

Given the above, Cliff Levingston would probably have to pull the trigger cause it solves some log jams for us and gives us a good, still relatively young big man in Gasol. Our rotation would look something like this:

1. Duhon, Hinrich
2. Hinrich, Gordon
3. Deng, Sefolosha
4. Gasol, Noah
5. Wallace, Gray

...which is much tighter and likely better than what we have now.

I don't like this for Milwaukee. We're not a playoff team with Redd right now and we still wouldn't be with this trade. IMO, the Bucks are either going to start to rebuild by using Redd to unload a contract and get a pick + exp'ing contracts, or trading for another star to go with Redd.

If the Griz move Gasol, they'll try to get OUT of bad contracts, not take them on. They're not being compensated nearly enough to have to take back Gadzuric here. (Also, this trade clearly makes Redd the "alpha dog" in Memphis...the reason he's being shopped in the first place is that he's being paid a gazillion bucks for that role and isn't suited to it.)

So that's a no for every team...
Fair enough. I think it's reasonably balanced for all teams, but I understand all the negatives mentioned. Especially the Bucks and Grizz might not get what they really need.

Fair-ish value all around (CHI does indeed get the short stick though), but MIL and MEM don't need to retool if they move their stars; they need youth- and expirings-based packages that CHI doesn't have.

Could possibly cut Milwaukee right out too. ICLO: Nocioni, Thomas and Smith is a nice package for Gasol if they decide to move him. Tyrus would thrive in the Grizzlies' wide open style while Nocioni could also fit right in as a reliable long term 6th man type of guy who can run, shoot the 3 and rebound. Joe Smith probably wouldn't be an ideal fit but is on a reasonable contract, expires after next season and could give the Grizz about 20 good minutes off the bench.

Agreed. This works better without Milwaukee.
