Sixers Continue the Cap Cutting...

Trade no.1 (between Philly & Miami)

Sixers get:
Dorell Wright
Earl Barron
Smush Parker
Alonzo Mourning's contract
future 2nd round pick

Heat get:
Reggie Evans
Rodney Carney

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE SIXERS:
They remove Evans' unnecessary contract and get back a package of expiring deals. Dealing away Carney isn't a huge loss considering they get back a young SF in Wright and have a developing prospect in Young for the 3 spot.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HEAT:
Evans would improve the depth of their frontcourt and Carney would provide some additional firepower to the perimeter.
HEAT LINE-UP:
PG-Williams/Quinn
SG-Wade/Cook
SF-Carney/Davis/Jackson
PF-Haslem/Evans
C-O'Neal/Blount

Trade no.2 (between Philly, Houston, & Cleveland)

Sixers get:
Aaron Brooks
Cedric Simmons
Kirk Snyder
Ira Newble (probably waived)
future 1st round pick (from Houston)

Rockets get:
Andre Miller
Louis Amundson

Cavs get:
Steve Francis
Bonzi Wells

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE SIXERS:
They deal away the veteran Miller while getting back two young prospects in Brooks and Simmons along with a future 1st. They also get the expiring contracts of Newble and Snyder.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE ROCKETS:
They dramatically improve their PG depth. Miller is a very good PG who could maximize the production of T-Mac and Yao.
ROCKETS LINE-UP:
PG-Miller/Alston/James
SG-McGrady(when healthy)/Head
SF-Battier/Amundson
PF-Scola/Hayes
C-Ming/Mutombo

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE CAVS:
They add some veteran pieces to help get them back into the playoff picture.
CAVS LINE-UP:
PG-Gibson/Francis/Snow/Jones
SG-Hughes/Wells/Brown
SF-James/Pavlovic
PF-Gooden/Marshall
C-Ilgauskas/Varejao

SIXERS ROSTER:

PG-Louis Williams/Aaron Brooks/Smush Parker
SG-Willie Green/Gordan Giriceck/Kirk Snyder
SF-Andre Iguoldala/Dorrell Wright/Thaddeus Young
PF-Jason Smith/Shavlik Randolph/Calvin Booth
C-Samuel Dalembert/Cedric Simmons/Earl Barron

Only players left on contract:
Iggy (probably re-signed to a long-term deal)--8 million
Willie Green--3 million
Sam Dalembert--10 million
Jason Smith--1.5 million
Aaron Brooks--1 million
Cedric Simmons--1 million
Thaddeus Young--2 million
2008 1st round pick--4 million
Jazz pick--2 million
Rockets pick--1 million
ROUGH ESTIMATE: 32.5 million
If the cap is set at 55 million, then the Sixers will have over 20 million dollars in cap room to pursue free agents.

Did we trade Iguodala too?

Sixers do it, I'm not sure why the other teams do, especially the Cavs.

No way Heat does that 1st deal, as they would start to rebuild and need young guys like Wright and Barron, they wouldn't get rid of their expirings for a crappy package like that, and because they don't want to add another bad contract (Evans) in their team, especially another big man.

Heat spit on the first deal, Philly on the second.

Agreed, Miami has no interest in the first deal. Wright provides more "firepower from the perimeter" than Carney, so that's no incentive. If they wanted Evans, and I'm not sure that they would, a simple expiring should be enough. No need for things like Wright or 2nd rounders.

Miami isn't the best trading partner for Philly. Most of Philly's bad contracts are 3 years long but Miami is only willing to take on deals that are 2 years long or less (because that's when Shaq's contract expires).

Something like Andre Miller for Jason Williams straight up could work, but Philly is probably looking to get a little more in return for Miller.

If Philly wants to shop Evans for an expiring contract, they'd be better off looking at Orlando or L.A.

The problem I have is when people say "The Heat wouldn't give up their young talent in Dorrell Wright in this deal" etcetera is that from what I've seen Wright isn't good at all.

I don't think Miller would fit into Houston's style with the Princeton offense that Adelman runs. That system doesn't really rely on a pass first PG too much.

Also Reggie Evans to the Clips is a nono. Chris Kaman may be set to knockdown Evans for what he did to him a couple of yrs back.

Miami's not taking Evans' contract. We're terrible. He's the last thing we need. We need to rebuild, not commit ourselves to more longterm salary...
