Why For the Bulls?
Things simply aren't working for Chicago, so it's time for a change. Maggette gives the Bulls a guy who can consistently attack the hoop and get to the line. He's a big G/F and would effectively end the Bulls small-backcourt. Cassell would give the Bulls a true leader. He'd also be a great distributor and a guy who can help Gordon in the clutch. Hassell gives the Bulls a defensive stopper. Dampier has a longer contract than Wallace, however, he will not get entitlement minutes so Noah, Gray, and Thomas will benefit. Wallace has $44 mill remaining on his contract, while Dampier has about $41 mill, so ultimately the Bulls save there. The extra first round pick gives the Bulls some added flexibility.

Why for the Mavs?
Dampier and Hassell simply aren't big parts of their team. Cuban will pay to win, and you've got to believe that he'd feel more comfortable going against Duncan and KG in the playoffs with Wallace on his side. It's a no brainer for the Mavs.

Why for the Clippers?
Cassell is on the brink of demanding a trade, Maggette is likely to try and leave LA as a free-agent, and the Clippers are struggling at the bottom of the West. It's time to rebuild. Hinrich instantly makes them younger while improving their defense considerably. Sefolosha gives them another young guard who brings defense and versatility. Hinrich, Sefolosha, and Livingston could compliment each other fairly well.

Interesting idea, if you can get Dallas to bite, they might do it. But why not send Gordon to the Clippers since they won't need him after they get Maggette.

Thanks! The Bulls' problem this year has been scoring, and Ben's the best we have. He's quietly emerged as the Bulls' best player under Boylan. He can still be brought off the bench this way, and it's way more justied now (since Duhon and Hinrich have struggled so much this season).

Oh I missed Hassell for some reason, should be about equal then salary wise I think. Makes it a better deal for Dallas.

Being a Bulls fan, I really like this trade....

ofcourse bulls fans would love it, the deal for dallas is terrible, ben wallace wouldnt even start here if dampier was a mav so why would we be dumb enough take take him and his awful contract and include 2 picks, thats just stupid. mavs say helllllllllllllllllll no. As a matter of fact, no team in the nba would give up their starting center for wallace and two picks. please lock this dumb thread

Cliff Levingston thinks the picks could easily be taken out so it's basically Dampier and Hassell for Wallace (from the Mavs' standpoint). It would all boil down to whether or not the Mavs think Wallace can give them more than Dampier (since Hassell doesn't provide a whole lot).

For the Bulls, Cliff Levingston hates the idea of taking Dampier's extra year (compared to Wallace) but would probably have to do it for the Hinrich/Maggette swap.

The Mavs aren't going to do that.

Wallace is not as good as Dampier anymore. Wallace just plays more minutes. Dampier is a far better offensive player, and on a per minute basis is a better rebounder and shot blocker.

Wallace was an awesome player, but he relied on athleticism to overcome size and skill. Age took that away.

They both expire in summer 2010 as Dampier's last year is not guaranteed.

Here is my response.

Oh, BTW, I really don't understand why non-mav fans don't seem to understand that we like Dampier and don't want to trade Dampier except for an obvious upgrade. And a drop of 15% from the FT line and 36% from the field in not an upgrade. Dampier has almost as many blocks with 2/3's the minutes, rebounding better per minute and has more points in way less minutes. Wallace is a downgrade and redundant to Diop.
