mavs trade
mo ager
trenton hassell
2008 1st rd pick
mavs get
marquis daniels
pacers trade
marquis daniels
pacers get
hassell
ager
08 1st
dallas does this to get athletic at the 2 guard, jones starts but is too old to play consistant minutes, daniels is not playing much in indiana and the mavs could use his versatility and defense at the two spot.
indiana is clearly in rebuild mold so they get a solid vet defender, a young 2 guard and a pick for the future

Indy accepts. Not sure that the Mavs do this deal though, guess we will have to wait and see.

Mavs would take Marquis back and give up a young player and a 1st? didn't they dump him for Croshere?

Daniels and his ball handling would make Terry that much more effective when Terry is at PG. Hassell and Ager never play. That would be quite a turnaround since mavs wanted to replace Daniels with Ager

Not going to happen.
Daniels fit Nellie's system, not Avery's. Daniels still doesn't fit with Avery and never will.

Well, any defensive SG end's up in Avery's doghouse (Daniels, Buckner, Hassell). All have better minutes and better production away from Avery.
Personally, I like Hassell's production when he gets on the floor, but how are you going to show what you can do when you get less than 40 minutes total in almost 2 months?
Anyways, back to the topic at hand...in Avery's eyes, Daniels for Ager & Hassell would be a wash as none will get playing time in Dallas and we certainly are not giving up a 1st to do that.

Exactly. The 1st round pick is the deal-killer. A swap of the players might have a realistic chance of happening. But I don't think it makes the Mavs better, really. MD is so inconsistent that he would spend lots of time on the bench in Dallas.

Getting a 1st makes it pretty worthwhile for the Pacers, but Hassell's deal runs longer than Daniels', thus aking that 1st rounder necessary. Without the 1st, I'd definitely say no. With the 1st, it's hard not to.
However, this seems like more of a deal that would happen around the draft if the Pacers saw someone they liked in the late 1st, and the Mavs wanted to cut some salary by taking on Marquis' deal and not exercise his option instead of having Hassell on the books for an additional year.
