Sixers have the most cap space in the league. They are also slumping are are projected to have a top pick in this years draft.

I propose:

Sixers Trade:
(Cap Space/Trade Exception)
Utahs 09 1st Round Pick
Rodney Carney
Phillys 2008 1st Round Pick

For Gasol

Unless that Philly pick is top 3 or so then keep dreamin...

As of now, the Philly pick is at 11. That is not even close to enough to get Gasol. Philly is not good enough to make the playoffs and not bad enough to make a splash in the lottery. Have fun picking Rodney Carneys for the next decade.

Right now they are at 11, but they keep losing and will continue to lose. They will definitly pick in the Top half of the lottery if the way they are playing continues.

Bingo. Philly would have to pick for Memphis, and hold onto the player until the FA period begins, hoping that no other team makes a competitive bid in the meantime.

That works. They would just have to agree to a deal in principle.

Who would be a deal-breaker from PHI's perspective? I imagine PHI wouldn't give Beasley in this deal, if the Sixers totally tanked or got lucky in the lottery. Alot of PHI fans seem enamored with Derrick Rose, so I don't see them trading that pick if they got it. Does the list start with Gordon? Jordan (who may or may not enter)? Batum or Budinger? Would MEM take a mid-lotto player for Gasol, after already likely getting a top 5 of their own?

Questions abound as to what PHI would be willing to give and what MEM would want, but I really like this idea.

I think Beasley is the only guy I wouldnt do the deal for. Maybe Rose too. Anyone else I would deal for Gasol.

I think Memphis would want at least one sure thing coming back in a Gasol deal.

And no, Rodney Carney does not count.

The Sixers have to put some talent on the table--beyond the maybe factor of a pick. These days-there's interesting RAW talent available early....then lesser raw talent and guys who had some resume but got passed over in the last draft. The risk factor is higher and usually the payoff takes a few years.
Picks still have value-of course-but not so much in trading for a star.

Well I think if the pick could net them Beasley, it could be the centerpiece of a deal...but then again why would Philly trade away a top prospect for Gasol? It doesn't make business sense in today's NBA.

The ONLY way I could see it happening is if Philly gets the #3 pick, Beasley and Rose go #1/#2 as projected, and Philly decides they'd rather have a big man than a G like Mayo. In that case a deal like #3 for Gasol straight up could work.

id do that. like I said. anyone but Mayo or Beasley would make sense for the sixers.
