Let's say the Wolves want to fill two holes this year in the draft (PG and C). Some might argue that Foye is the PG of the future but I say if you have an opportunity to get a special player like Rose you do it. So for the sake of argument we'll say the Wolves are able to draft Rose with their own pick and want to grab Jordan/Hibbert/Thabeet as well to jumpstart the rebuilding.

Would MN be able to acquire another lottery pick to make this happen?

Trading chips include the following:

-Miami #1 (2008 lottery protected, 2009 top-10, 2010 top-6, unprotected thereafter)

-Boston #1 (2009 top-3 protected)

-2008 MN #2 (currently #31)

-2008 Miami #2 (currently #32)

-Young players Ryan Gomes, Craig Smith, Gerald Green, Chris Richard

-Expirings or soon to be expirings Ratliff, Doleac, Walker, Buckner

Assume Foye, McCants, Brewer, Jefferson are off limits

I'm just wondering what it would take to make a bold move and bring two lottery picks to MN this summer. If your team has a lottery pick, would any of these assets entice you to give it up this year?

Unlikely with those assets. That Miami pick might not be available for years, the Boston pick could be 30th and is already a year away to begin with, and all the young players you're offering are going to be free agents and therefore have little value to a team that's going to miss the playoffs (like the ones you want a pick from).

Put your '09 pick in play, and maybe you can put something together.

I'm not sure we can do that as we owe a pick to the Clips. Even though its protected, I'm not sure we can promise next year's to someone else.

Good call too about the youngsters.....guys like Gomes and Smith might look better on a contender, not a team expecting a lottery pick.

Although, if I'm not mistaken, isnt Utah getting the Knicks' pick this year?

Not necessarily early lotto for Jordan. What would it take for a Hibbert-ish pick?

The only Center that'll be available and retrievable is Thabeet, who'll be around 13-17 imo, if Jordan comes out, and Hibbert, they'll both be gone by 10 (that's stretching it)

If you wanted to go higher you'd have to give something more valuable.

Not without Foye, Brewer, or your 09 pick (with minimal protection) being involved (I'm assuming you want to pair someone with Jefferson).

None of those C are starters in the league right away, Kevin Love cannot play the 5 in the NBA. The question would be if you could get ATL #1 from Phoenix would be do you go PG then try to get a C or get a guy like Jordan and then maybe a PG like Augustin in the middle?

If you would want Rose as your PG, Why would you keep both McCants and Foye then? You can't have two undersized SG's in the rotation. Give up McCants and get a bigger SG to come off the bench and just role with a Rose/Foye backcourt. I would look at Douglas-Roberts from Memphis as the backup 2.

Foye or McCants have to be included (and if you want a PG and a C it makes sense: PG- Foye or McCants - Brewer - Jefferson - C).

Not a problem. The rule doesn't say you can't trade two of your own consecutive future first round picks -- its that you can't trade away so you have no future first round picks. Since MIN acquired BOS' 2009 (and most likely, will have a third 1st with MIA), they can trade their pick if they wish.

Its an interesting idea, but its just too much of a salary crusher in the wrong year for MIN. Even including Jaric, MIN eats $8 mil next season, which wouldn't leave enough money left to sign both the MIN and ATL draft picks and stay under the lux, and mean they automaticly can't keep Gomes, Telfair ot Craig Smith. I think its a fair offer, but the lux strangulation would kill it on the MIN side.

Instead of Theo, would you consider Walker and Jaric? Walker would be a $9 mil expiring next season.

You'd save $2.5 mil this year, plus also the salary in 2008 for the pick (+$2 mil?), so it'd be a net $4.5 mil more. MIN can consider it then, because when Walker expires, Juwon and Troy Hudson's deals come off the books, so they wouldn't choke on Ben's $15 mil deal. It seems to me that MIN should add more, so it should probably include an upgrade of Khryapa or Curry (Nichols can't be combined) for Gomes, Smith, or Telfair. I end up at:

Ben Wallace + JamesOn Curry + ATL pick for Ryan Gomes + Walker + Jaric + BOS pick
