great idea to trade a starting pg and a starting Center for a bad contract, an expiring and a backup pg :banghead:

Makes no sense for either team.

Seattle is rebuilding, so why would they take on a 4-year contract?

Philly is rebuilding, so why take on a 2-year contract for an absurd amount of money?

actually, seattle probably does this. their biggest need right now are at point and center. philly saves a little money as thomas is expiring (he can still play btw) and seattle gets a vet at point which allows them to move watson or ridnour. it also allows seattle to take the best player avaiable in the draft and not worry about position (pg) so much. and a lot of sonics fans are high on dalembert. yes, the sonics are rebuilding, and this deal might speed up that process for them.

Thomas would make a nice back-up center for the Sixers & they should try to sign him as a FA after the season.

I wouldn't do this trade. No way.

R Swift has the capability of being every bit as good if not better than S Dalembert. If R Swift recovers. It's been a long time, but the latest reports have him coming back in a few weeks. I'm all for waiting a bit longer to find out. Besides, S Dalembert's contract is a salary cap killer.

A Miller is a good PG. Real good. But the soon to be 32 year old A Miller would be wasted on the Sonics. The Sonics aren't winning ballgames right now because of PG play. The Sonics aren't winning because their go-to guy is only 19 years old. While K Durant has amazing skills, is getting better daily and assuredly will be the guy in years to come, today, compared to the go-to guys on winning teams it's not much of a contest. The Sonics are way better off to pick either D Rose or J Bayless in next June's draft and let the team grow up together.

can we for just one minute stop assuming who the sonics MIGHT take in next years draft? swift has a lot to prove. A LOT! dalembert would make a nice addition and so would miller. that is a talent upgrade for seattle. stop assuming who seattle will pick and stop assuming that the sonics will be able to sign a top tier free agent with upcoming cap space.
dalembert and miller are just what the sonics need right now, starting center, starting point. they are not injured nor are they tweeners. miller expires in two years at which time he will be 34 or 35, just enough time to draft, sign, or trade for a replacement and groom him.

No arguement that R Swift has a lot to prove. My point is give him a bit more time to recover so we can all find out. If the 76ers are willing to trade S Dalembert now, they'll be willing to trade him this summer as well. There's no need to rush. Especially at $10M per year forever.

As for the draft pick, ya, the Sonics could pick anyone. Who knows what's going to happen? It's pretty damn likely the Sonics will get a decent PG, but they might not. Still, that doesn't change the fact that A Miller would be wasted on the Sonics right now. The Sonics won't be ready to contend until 2009/10 at the earliest. By then A Miller is ready to retire.

I didn't mention the Sonics signing a free agent. In fact, I don't think there are any free agents this summer right for the Sonics.

As painful as it has been, it's going to be worse after the Sonics likely trade away Kurt Thomas at the deadline. I don't think adding either of those guys is the long term answer. In fact, all it would do is reduce our chance for a high pick and lock us into perpetual mediocrity. Which is much worse IMO than sucking for a year or two but coming out the other side with a team that'll contend for the long term.

So I guess we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

no worries dj. i don't believe in skipping steps in the rebuild, but i also don't believe in passing up an opprotunity to pick up talent when it may help now AND in the future. we certainly disagree on this one, but that is ok bro.

Robert Swift is a potential guy. He hasn't done anything yet but is in the 4th year of his rookie contract. That means he's a restricted free agent next year. If he comes back for half a season & plays well, he'll get the same 60 million dollar contract that Dalembert got. That would be taking a huge risk with his injury history.

really? All im saying is that is a competitive offer for Andre Miller.

Your post is hinting at you expecting more for Andre Miller, and thats what I was pointing out, you really SHOULDNT expect more. but judging by your trades before, you do, and I was simply pointing out an observation.

You need to avoid posting unnecessary Completely onesided deals for PHI, its really starting to piss me off.
