2 trades to give the King some help - CLE/SAC and CLE/NYK
Trade #1: CLE/SAC
CLE outgoing/SAC incoming: Drew Gooden, Donyell Marshall, Ira Newble, Eric Snow, and 2008 1st round pick (lotto protected)
SAC outgoing/CLE incoming: Mike Bibby, Mikki Moore, and Kenny Thomas
Why do the Kings do this deal?
They trade Bibby so they can finally get the rebuilding show on the road. First and foremost, they dump a lot of money by getting rid of KT's contract. They also pick up a solid PF in Gooden who has a short contract, so he won't tie them down financially. Losing Moore won't hurt as they would be rebuilding and have no use for him. The Kings also get a 1st round pick to top it all off.
PG: Udrih/Douby/Snow
SG: Martin/Salmons/Jones
SF: Artest/Garcia/Newble
PF: Gooden/Marshall/Abdur-Rahim
C: Miller/Hawes/Williams
Why do the Cavs do this deal?
They get their man in Bibby, who gives the Cavs the PG they have been looking for ever sine Lebron became a Cav. Bibby also will help space the floor for Lebron as he is a solid shooter. Moore gives them both post depth and defense in the post.
Trade #2: CLE/NYK
CLE outgoing/NYK incoming: Larry Hughes, Damon Jones, and Cedric Simmons
NYK outgoing/CLE incoming: Mardy Collins, Jamal Crawford, and Zach Randolph
Why do the Knicks do this deal?
The Randolph-Curry experiment clearly isn't working, so the Knicks decide that shaving money is the best route to go. In this deal, they shave a year off of Randolph's contract by getting Hughes, who can actually play defense. They also dump Crawford's long contract for Jones' short contract. Lastly, they get a young post player in Simmons.
PG: Marbury/Robinson/Jones
SG: Hughes/Jones/Chandler
SF: Richardson/Balkman/Jeffries
PF: Lee/Simmons/Rose
C: Curry/Morris/James
Why do the Cavs do this deal?
By trading Gooden in the Bibby deal, the Cavs have opened a hole at the starting PF spot. Randolph is just as productive as Randolph on the offensive side of the ball, but is worse on D and has a longer contract. The Cavs also dump Hughes, who hasn't fit in with this team at all, and get a scorer in Crawford to help take the load off of Lebron.
Final Cavs' Roster:
PG: Bibby/Gibson/Collins
SG: Crawford/Brown/Brown
SF: James/Pavlovic
PF: Randolph/Varejao/Thomas
C: Ilgauskas/Moore/Jones
CLE outgoing/SAC incoming: Drew Gooden, Donyell Marshall, Ira Newble, Eric Snow, and 2008 1st round pick (lotto protected)
SAC outgoing/CLE incoming: Mike Bibby, Mikki Moore, and Kenny Thomas

Wow, the Knicks trade Collins, Crawford and Randolph and the best player they get back is Larry Hughes and his terrible contract. Just terrible. Absolutely terrible.

The point is not to upgrade in talent, it's to shed salary. You shed a lot of salary with this deal. You get more cap relief for the "2010 plan". The Collins-for-Simmons swap is in there for 2 reasons:#1knickfan wrote:CLE outgoing/NYK incoming: Larry Hughes, Damon Jones, and Cedric Simmons

1. To make it work salary-wise.
2. To give the Knicks an extra body to help replace Randolph.

The contracts are the same. Gooden would start anyway, so maybe keeping Mikki would be an issue. Take the first, I say, no matter if it's the 20th pick or so. Now, I'm not sure about this deal for other reasons (really uninspired by Gooden, but maybe a 3rd team wants him more) but keeping Mikki Moore better not be the sticking point.

Crawford has been playing perfectly fine.
When Marbury has been out (and that is what will happen at the latest by the end of next season) Crawford's shooting (as well his numbers across the board) has been much better than his career numbers (which people seem to love focusing on).
It's funny that a 27 year old averaging 19ppg and 4.5apg at the SG position and being paid $7.9 million this year is considered nothing but a deadweight contract.

Hey LBJ, I don't pretend to speak for the other Kings fans here, but two items.
Item #1 - you want Bibby, we do not NEED to move him. So quit bitching about K9 being part of the deal - that's the price to pay, take it or leave it.
Item#2 - As soon as you ad (lotto protected) - which translates as (hedging our bets) to any trade, you completely lose any interest from Sac fans. You may consider it overvaluing Bibby to say that we want an UNPROTECTED pick, but the fact is that if you are supposedly contenders or at least playoff caliber with him then it shouldn't matter. I t just gives us a little bonus if things don't work out for you or LeBron turns an ankle and is lost for the season (not our problem).
