CHI/SEA/ORL simple deal

Post#1 » by HotSpurs21 » Tue Jan 15, 2008 2:13 pm

Chicago
out: Joakim Noah, Joe Smith, Chris Duhon
in: Chris Wilcox, Earl Watson

They get rid of Noah, who seems to be disruptive of the team's chemistry. Now they finally get a PF who can score in Wilcox. Watson's contract hurts but he is more than capable as a backup PG.

Rotation:
Wallace/Gray
Wilcox/Thomas
Deng/Nocioni
Gordon/Thabo
Hinrich/Watson

Seattle
out: Earl Watson, Chris Wilcox, Mickael Gelabale
in: Joakim Noah, JJ Redick, Pat Garrity, Chris Duhon, 2008 ORL 1st

They get a good defensive young big in Noah, who has great potential and can grow with their young core. JJ Redick gives them a young shooter to fill Wally's role in the long term. They also get rid of Watson's contract and receive Orlando's 1st.

Rotation:
Thomas/Swift
Collison/Noah
Green/Wally
Durant/Wilkins/Redick
West/Duhon

Orlando
out: Pat Garrity, JJ Redick, 2008 1st
in: Joe Smith, Mickael Gelabale

They get a productive veteran PF in Smith, whose ability to hit mid-range jump shots makes him a perfect fit alongside Howard. Gelabale gives them a better defensive wing than Redick, who is in SVG's doghouse because of his lack of defense.

Rotation:
Howard/Foyle
Smith/Augustine/Cook
Lewis/Gelabale
Turkoglu/Bogans
Nelson/Arroyo/Dooling

"Get rid of Noah"..

Jesus Christ.. This is Tyrus Thomas' free money comment all over again. It was one damn episode. Joe Smith & Joakim Noah aren't going anywhere.

There was another thread a lot like this for Chicago/Seattle.

The consensus (by me)?

Wilcox can't score any more than Smith and has a contract that is pretty much equal. Plus we give up a valuable expiring in Duhon and a good young player in Noah. And we have to take on Earl Watson for 6M+ over the next couple of years?

Pass for Chicago, easily.

I wouldn't mind it for the Sonics.

BTW: You forgot Luke Ridnour and given the way he played yesterday, he'd start over both West and Duhon.

Wilcox is not a low-post player? How many of those rebounds he grabs are not from the low-post?

Orlando accepts happily.

Rebounding is not an issue for the Bulls.

To be honest, I'm thinking Kurt Thomas is the guy the Sonics are offering come trade deadline. Not C Wilcox. Looks like the Lakers are going with CWeb, so there's one less contending team in need of a solid big.

Getting out from E Watson's contract now is not that big a deal. There aren't any unrestricted free agents the Sonics would pursue this summer anyway. Especially with his $6M. And the Sonics are no where near the salary cap next season.

C Wilcox is still only 25 years old even though this is his 6th season. We've got two rookies (K Durant & J Green). Hopefully a young center (R Swift). A top pick next draft (D Rose or J Bayless or E Gordon). And a few other younger veterans (N Collison, L Ridnour). I like the age balance on this roster. They just need time & experience. Replacing C Wilcox with a rookie is just going to slow down the Sonic's development time horizon.

So you're probably going to have to knock our socks off with a great offer for C Wilcox or it's no. In fact, it's going to have to be at least expirings and a 1st/2nd pick swap for Kurt Thomas or we'll keep him too.
