Rebuilding the Sacramento Kings...

Post#1 » by pja123 » Tue Jan 15, 2008 11:52 pm

Trade no.1 (between Sacto & Cleveland)

Kings get:
Daniel Gibson
Eric Snow
Donyell Marshall

Cavs get:
Mike Bibby
Justin Williams

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE KINGS:
They unload Bibby's monstrous contract while getting back deals which expire in a year. They also get a young prospect in Daniel Gibson who showed flashes of brilliance during the playoffs last season and could develop into a stud if given the chance and a larger role in the offense.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE CAVS:
Bibby, when healthy, is an all-star caliber PG. Obviously health is an issue, but for what they're giving up, I think it's worth the risk. Bibby is a good outside shooter and has good court vision. He's what the Cavs need at the 1 spot. Williams adds depth to the bench.

Trade no.2 (between New York & Sacto)

Kings get:
David Lee
Jared Jefferies
Fred Jones
Malik Rose
3 million dollars

Knicks get:
Ron Artest
Kenny Thomas
Shareef Abdur-Rahim

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE KINGS:
They deal away Artest, but in the process offload Thomas and Reed while netting a young big man in Lee and some additional cap relief from Rose and Jones. Yes, they take on Jefferies, but his mid-level salary isn't really a burden and he is a solid role player.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE KNICKS:
It's obvious, they get a defensive beast and native son of NY in Artest. He would add intensity and energy to the team while dramatically improving their perimeter D. Thomas and Reef are the cost (in terms of finances) but the Knicks can handle it.

Trade no.3 (between Sacto & Toronto)

Kings get:
Rasho Nesterovic
Juan Dixon
2008 1st round pick

Raps get:
Brad Miller
Quincy Douby

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE KINGS:
They shave a year off their salary commitment by swapping Miller for Rasho. They also open up more time for Moore and Hawes in the middle. To top it off, they get a 1st round pick to aid in the youth movement.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE RAPS:
They strengthen their frontline with Miller. He would be a good compliment to Bosh and is having a productive year (14ppg & 8rpg). Douby would replace Dixon off the bench.

OTHER MOVES:

1.) Waive Dhantay Jones

2.) Buyout Eric Snow

NEW KINGS ROSTER:

PG-Daniel Gibson/Beno Udrih/Juan Dixon
SG-Kevin Martine/John Salmons/Fred Jones
SF-Francisco Garcia/Jared Jefferies
PF-David Lee/Donyell Marshall/Malik Rose
C-Spencer Hawes/Mikki Moore/Rasho Nesterovic

-This team has some promising young talent in combination with quality role players. They've also set themselves up nicely to have boatloads of cap space in a year when Rose, Marshall, Nesterovic, & Snow come off the books.

No to all 3 trades.

Gibson is crazy overrated right now. He's basically a backup SG in a PG's body. No way do the Kings pick up the salary on Snow and Marshall JUST to get Gibson

The Kings aren't taking on Jeffries deal. He's equally as useless as SAR/Thomas but has an extra year on his deal. Further, I personally don't think Lee fits the Kings at all.

The third trade is a joke right? The potential Douby's shown would mean the Kings would probably want a 1st rounder back just for him. So, to them, it's Brad Miller for Rasho & Dixon? HAH

Well, the Kings aren't going to trade Bibby until he comes back from injury. I think he's being undervalued right now, and will show it on the court. The Kings will probably revisit Bibby trades near the trade deadline.

As for the second trade, Kings don't take back Jared Jeffries in an Artest deal. Period. If David Lee is the only useful piece we get back, a complete dump of KT and SAR for shorter contracts is necessary.

I would do the third deal if you take out Douby and Dixon. Miller for Rasho and a 1st will work.

Kings say no to all 3 deals. If Bibby is going to Cleveland their 1st with one of Gooden or Varejao has to come back.

I love the Raptors one, but Sacramento would have to be crazy to accept that. I think a front court with Miller and Bosh would be very good.

Kings pass on all 3 deals.

Trade 1 - Cleveland doesn't have the pieces to get Bibby by themselves, if you think they do, feel free to take all of the Cav's crap players and we'll take something of your roster. Not to mention that alot of Kings fans are pretty high on Justin Williams

Trade 2 - Kings are not taking J. Jefferies, period. His contract is worse than anything the Kings currently have.

Trade 3 - The difference between Brad Miller & Rasho is more than a late first round pick. Additionally if the Kings were going to trade with the Raptors, they're are other players they'd target.

So you're saying the Kings wouldn't trade Bibby for Gooden and Boobie? That is laughable. Maybe it's not getting done because the Cavs won't give you Gooden, or Boobie, or take back KT, but the Cavs certainly have enough ammo to trade for Bibby.

I think the Cavs have the pieces, but there is just no compromise that can be reached

The Kings have the leverage.

Will wait and see where the Cavs are heading towards the Trade Deadline and see if they will give us what we want

If a CLE-SAC deal was based around Bibby/KT for Gooden/Gibson, then yes, I'm sure the Kings would think hard about it.

However, Cleveland won't give that much up for Bibby unless they are completely desperate or Bibby proves that the injury is long gone.

Personally, I want nothing to do with Gooden so he doesn't come here and take Justin William's minutes.

Well it depends on what reports you listen to. More than half of the ones I read say that they don't have enough expiring contracts to get it done. Last year it was said the Kings were interested in Gooden, they then signed Mikki Moore and that supposedly put the kabosh on that one. Then you have another report out of Cleveland IIRC, that said Ferry said anything but LBJ is OK. Then you have reports now that say taking on Kenny Thomas may be too much, which I don't believe because it really wouldn't destroy the Cav's cap much more than it already is.

But....I think they have the pieces to get it done!

Bibby/Kenny for Gooden/Snow/Jones/08 1st lotto protected sounds more than fair to me! If Ferry won't budge maybe even swith Gooden with Marshall. If Petrie is turning that down I don't know what the heck he really wants. If Ferry thinks thats too much he needs to put down the poker face and listen to the superstar in his right ear begging for help. And he should be careful and not settle for second best. That's how the Heat most likely took themselves out of the running for Artest/Bibby.

If Ferry switched Marshall with Gooden...Petrie has the RIGHT to turn that crap deal... I doubt we dump Bibby just to get rid of K9....Come on, SKZZZ, you are underrating Bibby IMO....

But you are underrating the situation we are in. We have too many guys, making too much money, with too many guys behind them looking for minutes. The way Beno Udrih has played recently it almost allows us to deal Bibby without having to find a way to solidify the PG spot, which was supposedly a reason the Kings were reluctant to move him the past. I would revise my deal and add Newble instead of Jones though, that could help ease the tax crush a little for next year. Cap space and a 1st round pick is what I remember hearing being some of the requirements, except before they were trying to find a PG coming back so we wouldn't be without one.

The reality is what it is. We will be up over the tax keeping things the way they are, and Kenny's deal will pretty much single handedly put an end to any FA hopes in '09. That and if we keep Bibby, Beno goes. There is no way the Kings are going to pay him all the way up to the MLE all the while being over the tax with another legit starting PG on the roster looking for playing time. Wednesday will be very interesting, lets see what happens when Theus has way too many bodies to keep all happy. Those kinds of situations can get very ugly in a hurry.

Yeah, I understand your position and view but why sell Bibby Low if we didnt even give him a chance to recover his value...IMO that is a bad GM move...We have let the former players to get their value into a respectable one...

Bibby isn't the type of player nor is he in the type of position to where he needs to recover his value. He is only a real viable option for a certain number of teams and in even fewer circumstances. Bibby could come back and score 30 points and dish out 10 assists per game for the next month and that still won't change things. All it would do is create questions as to whether or not he should be traded. I'd hate to see the powers that be say, "Hey, we can make the playoffs! Lets keep this together for one more season!" Then have Beno Udrih and Ron Artest walk at the end of the year for nothing because we didn't do what needed to be done. Now I don't think the urgency to move Bibby is as great as it is to move Artest (unless the Kings are willing to sign Ron and make him a fixture in Sac for years to come and can find a way to put the pieces around him to win, still plausible, maybe not from a cap standpoint however) Bibby is what he is, 9 previous seasons provide more insight into the player he is than the 1 injured season.

Teams interested in him will most certainly be ones that don't have all that many assets to go after somebody not on the market. They inherently will not have high draft pick possibilities and be deep in young talent due to drafting towards the bottom of the first round recently because they are a good team.

Bibby is on the market by simple way of not being seen as a piece to build on for the future. Bibby and Artest are on the market, it may be tough to get them but both teams involved have an agenda. Ours is supposedly to get draft picks and cap space. That Cavs deal looks about right to me if that is truly what they are looking for. As for dumping Kenny, I think a Cavs trade is the only realistic chance that we move Kenny with Bibby. Otherwise he goes with Ron and we get lesser value from him.
