Bulls: Lots of uncertainty with Ben Gordon heading into the off-season with this team so the Bulls unload him and get a lot of promising talent back. Rudy Fernandez looks to be a stud while the #1 pick and Sergio Rodriguez will likely be competitors.

Blazers: Gordon combines with Roy and Jack to give arguably the NBA's best guard rotation. He is a wonderful compliment and once Oden comes into the fold next season the Blazers will be contending. Nocioni adds toughness and would do well without pressure to score.

Bulls: Hinrich and Wallace have been brutal this season and the Bulls unload for Cleveland's garbage. The Bulls take on slightly less salary and get out of the Hinrich deal.

Cavs: If Hinrich finds his shot he would be a great addition for the Cavs and Hinrich needs to be playing along a great playmaker like LeBron to be most effective. Wallace gives the Cavs an improved defensive presence. Its a low risk trade for the Cavs with a pretty high reward if Hinrich and Wallace find new life in the new situation.

Bulls: Smith and Griffin signed on to play for a contender and the Bulls do the two classy veterans a favor by sending them to a team with an outside chance of making the Finals (and pick up a late first rounder in the process).

Magic: Joe Smith is exactly what they need next to Dwight Howard. A steady jumper and overall skill really plug the biggest hole on Orlando's roster. Should really help them compete with Boston and Detroit in the playoffs.

In this process the Bulls finish bottom 5 in the NBA and get a great pick. The Bulls will also be set up for crazy cap room when LeBron is a free-agent.

I wouldn't put all of that investment into getting LeBron, since that isn't particularly likely to happen.

To clarify this isn't really about getting LeBron. Its about starting new with Deng, Thomas, Noah, and our draft pick. We would be setting ourselves up for a lot of cap space which leaves a possibility for getting LeBron but that was not really the premise of the thread. It was mostly getting rid of the dead weight and getting a great pick and Rudy Fernandez.

Portland pawned Khryapa off on CHI for a reason; they wanted to clear their roster of the '04 draft.

I think the value of the POR deal is solid, but I'm not sure the Blazers want to bail out the Bulls at the expense of their own '09 free agency caproom (where bigger stars than the ones incoming will be available).

Asking for picks is a bit much...

From this 'portland perspective', it's not a bad try but it wouldn't fly.

For one thing, as someone else mentioned, portland won't be giving up Rudy Fernandez, especially for this particular deal. The pick yes, the pick and fernandez no.

The first problem is Gordon's contract status. There's no guarantee that portland will be able to extend him this summer, so the primary gain from this trade for the Blazers may be a temporary one. They'd need to have some kind of guarantee to feel comfortable with the trade and they wouldn't be getting it...big risk for portland and it greatly reduces Gordon's trade value.

For another, while Nocioni is necessary for salary match, he'd be another SF for portland. And I'm inclined to think that Outlaw, Webster, and Jones are all better for Portland then Nocioni. Portland has Miles at the same position as well. Kryapa would basically be the 6th SF so he'd be cut.

The counter-proposal from portland would be

jack, lafrentz, rights to kaponen, and 2009 1st round pick

for

gordon, nocioni, and khryapa

and I'd bet that a lot of portland fans wouldn't like that offer because it kills any chance at cap-space in 2009.

Actually, Khryapa was one of the few bright spots in Portland's awful 21 win season. He was a fan favorite and a hustle guy. The only reason Portland traded him to Chicago is because that's what Paxson wanted in return for picking Aldridge for the Blazers. Kevin Pritchard (wisely) decided that it was worth it to move him to get the deal done. The Blazers certainly wouldn't have any problem with bringing him back.
