Hornets - Wolves (simple this time)

Post#1 » by MN Die Hard » Wed Jan 16, 2008 1:58 pm

I know there has been a fair amount of discussion about these two teams possibly being good trade partners, with different packages being discussed. Has anyone mentioned a simple Bobby Jackson/Marko Jaric swap?

NO gets their more productive bench player who can play three positions, and MN gets a $6 million expiring contract next season.

Which side would turn that down?

Neither. Marko's game would be a nice fit next to both Chris Paul and Pargo, and the Hornets would get even more out of them. He might start at the 2-guard, letting MoPete return to the sixth man job where he used to flourish.

While Jaric arguably fits better for MIN too, making the game easier for the youth and the young PG's, the Wolves don't need the productive Jaric, and could bring Bobby Jackson back home and just wait out his bad, but shorter, contract.

Your deal works fine. However if both teams wanted to expand it, the Wolves can give plenty of productive help to the worst bench in the NBA, since they have no constraints about production this season. MIN would be anxious to get pieces that aren't ready yet (lotto-protected 1st, Hilton Armstrong), and they can provide young cheap, productive pieces as well, like Ryan Gomes, Telfair and Craig Smith. For instance, Gomes (15 PPG, 7 RPG the last month) would get plenty of minutes on the Hornets, and would be terrific insurance for Peja.

I hear ya there, I wouldnt mind adding additional assets like picks or Armstrong. However, I also wouldnt want to fool around trying to make a bigger deal and miss a simple but effective deal like Jackson/Jaric.
