They unload some long contracts and save money as well, and get some draft picks on top of this.

No thanks. IMO the Warriors won't give up Wright AND Ellis for Gasol, and getting a bunch of lower level young guys in return doesn't change that.

I want the Warriors to go after Pau, but Golden State gives up too much here and I don't want to take on Stromile Swift's contract. We're giving up our last three first round picks and next year's first round pick, plus a budding star player (Ellis), and good player in Harrington.

Plus, there is no way in hell I'm giving Portland Monta Ellis. Their young core is already too damn talented.

I'd rather cut everyone else out of the deal and just deal directly with Memphis, taking Mike Miller out of the deal.

I at Memphis "starts rebuilding" by trading for 9 new players (9!) - what's left to do in the rebuilding process when you have an entire new roster?

Anyway, the trade doesn't cut it for Memphis. We essentially trade Gasol & Miller for Harrington and a bunch of potential (nobody else coming back to the Grizz has proven anything ... well, maybe Arroyo - but the Grizz don't need another PG - and further, none of the guys coming back to the Grizz even have the potential to be as good as Gasol is right now, other than Wright maybe). Obviously, you have to take some risk if you want to improve - but this is just too much risk for any reasonable GM IMO.

Memphis saves over $50 million. Gets out of Cardinal, Stro, Stoudamire's deals. And gets 2 future first round picks. Gets four former lottery picks. Gets a good player in Harrington.

This deal is way way too good for Memphis.

Blazers pass on this lopsided deal in a millisecond......

No, no it's not. You don't give away assets for free - you give away garbage for free: IOW, don't act like we're "saving" anything by giving Gasol and Miller away - every talented player has a cost, and neither of those two are substantially overpaid (Gasol is a bargain in fact)

As for Cardinal - yes, that's a godawful contract and I agree with you. As for Stoudamire and Stro, they each only have one more year - and that's assuming Stro picks up his player option for next year (which of course he'd be stupid not to); if we can't move them, we hold on to them next year and they become expirings.

Get for former first round picks? Sweet! We're also giving up four former first round picks. Why, even Stro is a former first round pick! IOW, that's an extremely weak way to characterize any trade offer.

So again, back to my original points: way too much risk for the Grizz here in general, plus the best-case scenario (i.e. players reach their full potential) is that the Grizz get a player maybe on par with Gasol's level of play right now (Wright) and a bunch of role players.

Warriors would pass. I think if they Gasol, it couldn't be at Harrington's expense. Harrington has finally found a niche in the league with this team and he's playing great for them. And with his inside outside combinations, I think he would be better next to Gasol then Biedrins would.

And Portland isn't going to give up Sergio, they think hes their point guard of the next 10 years.

we give up more than we want because we don't want all those extra players. as much as i'd love some of those players on the warriors, we'd be killing the team chemistry. and i don't think we've been doing so bad that we need a big trade like this. so i'd pass.

Any logical team would, I'm just saying, I think Harrington would be a better player next to Gasol then Biedrins would be. And I think if they could get Gasol, and Ellis would have to be included in the deal, a starting five of Davis, Jackson, Harrington, Gasol and Biedrins would be top 3 in the west. It would completly contradict Nellie ball, but they would be a better team.

I like Ellis, but I don't think he's a great fit next to Roy, especially not at this price. Blazers need a spot-up shooter next to Roy, not a slasher.

Easy no for Portland.
