If the goal of the trade was to send anything remotely good on NY to New Jersey you forget David Lee and Randolph Morris.

The Knicks are not going to add THREE positive-value young assets to turn Randolph into near-meaningless expirings (plus Jason Collins' non-expiring).

Yea.. Randolph is not so bad that the knicks have to sweeten the pot just to get rid of him.

New Jersey is one of the few places were Randolph could really make sense (they need any kind of post players.) I think a simple Randolph for expirings deal makes sense for both sides. New Jersey could legitimately improve their team, and New York desperately needs to dump salary and do a real rebuild from the ground up.

Zach doesn't make nearly as much sense here as you believe.

One, we have one of the worst attendance averages in the NBA. We alreayd have Kidd, Carter and Jefferson making big money; we're also preparing to move, and don't wantto tie up alot of $ long-term. Now we add another $50 or so million over the next four years? Plus, our half-court offense could use a post scorer, sure, but our bigger concern is that we don't get enough transition opportunities. Transistion offense comes from defensive stands, and running out on the fast break; not two of Zach's strongest points. With Boone and Williams in the starting lineup, we have become vastly improved in that regard, and bringing in Randolph would take away from our defensive stops, and reduce the number of guys running the floor.

That said, this deal is way over-sweetened for the Nets. Randolph for Collins, Magloire and Allen is fair IMO, although I do not have the majority of Nets posters' support on it.

I think this edited 3-for-3 deal is good for both!

Which is why the thought that if the Nets actually had an offensive post presence to complement their perimeter driven offense that they would be a better team...whch in turn would bring in fans.

We alreayd have Kidd, Carter and Jefferson making big money;

Which is why the Randolph for Carter proposal. I don't think it's enough for Jersey but that was why it wasn't Randolph for Collins, Magliore and Nachbar.

we're also preparing to move, and don't wantto tie up alot of $ long-term. Now we add another $50 or so million over the next four years?

I think it's actually closer to $60 million but anywho... :D

Plus, our half-court offense could use a post scorer, sure, but our bigger concern is that we don't get enough transition opportunities. Transistion offense comes from defensive stands, and running out on the fast break; not two of Zach's strongest points.

Which is why you have guys like Sean Williams, Josh Boone, Jason Kidd who are strong defensive players. If you're looking for a low post presence that can also run and that can also defend, those types of players don't exactly grow on trees or a lot more teams would have players like that.

With Boone and Williams in the starting lineup, we have become vastly improved in that regard, and bringing in Randolph would take away from our defensive stops, and reduce the number of guys running the floor.

But still an middle of the pack team. Yes, yes, better than the Knicks but that's not the point. Randolph actually is ok running the floor. And if he actually had someone that can get him the ball quicker instead of after teams have had a chance to set defensivley (which is what's happened in Portland and happening in NY) he wouldn't chuck as many shots as he has. Randolph has one of the best pair of hands in the NBA. That's why he's able to rebound and score despite having a 2 inch vertical and mediocre athleticism. You through it anywhere near him especially if teams don't have a chance to set their defense and he becomes more dangerous offensively.

That said, this deal is way over-sweetened for the Nets. Randolph for Collins, Magloire and Allen is fair IMO, although I do not have the majority of Nets posters' support on it.

The Knicks are not looking to dump Randolph for expiring contracts is the problem.

Knicks / Nets

Post#10 » by KnicksManiac » Thu Jan 17, 2008 9:06 pm

My friend who is a Nets fan proposed this trade to me (a Knicks fan):

Nets Trade: Vince Carter
Knicks Trade: Zach Randolph

As a Nets fan, he said he'd make that trade in a second. Thoughts?

They aren't? Didn't they just get shot down on a Simmons/Gadzuric package?

If the Knicks are willing to settle on that type of package, I guarantee they are trying to dump Randolph for expirings.

That "friend" must be S.I.C GM from this board who hates VC. That deal doesnt make sense for the Nets.
